I once had a dream of doing something very stupid with a vehicle but that dream was dashed when I discovered that being under 20 and needing insurance leads to having no money. I assumed that for my dream I had to wait 'til i was 25 and resigned myself to that.

Recently I had a conversation with somebody and they said that if you change enough things in a car it becomes a kitcar, value turns to scrap and insurance premiums plummet. Is this even slightly true?

If it is then I can start reconsidering my plans. I know that if you change a car enough it needs to be reregistered as a new car with the DVLA but I'm assuming that's something else.

edit: on a side note, Hi, i'm new here and don't know nearly enough about cars so I expect to be asking a load of questions

Certainly kitcars are cheaper to insure performance per £ than other cars, but I don't think it's to do with scrap value.
I think it'd have to be a recognised kit too, for insurance purposes.
The key, as I see it, is the all important power/weight ratio. If the car is nice and light then the engine doesn't have to be as powerful for the same performance so engine size can be comparatively small and therefore insurance friendly.
