Hi everyone,

I've finally found myself in a position to get a 7 at last so I'm planning to try and look at this one this weekend...

http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/detail.asp?i=42142&s=446

Just wondering what I should look out for when viewing? How do I tell a well built kit from a hash up?

I've got around £5k to spend, and I realise that a Tiger isn't gonna be as good as a Caterham or Westfield but are they an OK buy??

The other things that I'm unsure of are the residual values of tigers, how difficult are they to sell and am I likely to lose much money in a year or two of ownership?

Any nuggets of information gratefully received!!

I'm a firm believer in the 80:20 rule, you can usually get 80% of the benefit for 20% of he cost . . . doesn't apply to everything and sometimes it's 70:30 but you get the idea.

Tiger are a reasonably well respected kit, the Pinto is a pretty strong engine and overall, it'll give you cheap 7 motoring for this summer.

Just make the usual checks, make sure the engine starts and idles properly, doesn't smoke or overheat and pulls cleanly.

Check the ride, it should feel reasonably taught and sporty, the steering should be direct with no slack.

Basically, all the usual checks you'd do on a car.

Would be a good idea to ask on the Tiger owners club forum for advice - also ring Tiger themselves - they probably know of the car. Find out what gearboc it ought to have, what axel ratio it should have and ask the owner these questions to see if it all tallies.

It looks well worth a visit and test drive
