Incorrectly registered kit cars
Discussion
I have found an old incorrectly registered kit car. It has an up to date V5 which was issued this year. The car itself has been off the road for 30 years. It used a single vehicle as the donor on a non original chassis, so engine, gearbox, front and rear suspension are all from the donor. No documentation or old MOT's available. The origin/maker of the kit is unknown. If I stuck the original manufacturers name and model on the car, would it then be incorrectly registered ? Being an older, but well built kit car it would never pass an IVA.
As I understand it, there was an amnesty quite a long time ago, but cars which missed would need an IVA pass to have the registration details changed.
There are however a reasonable number of cars in the same boat as yours, which for the owners of those cars, is problematic in terms of if you wish to correct the details.
Others however may know more than I do.
If the car is rare and or desirable then it may be worth working fairly hard on it, I dont know how practical it is to IVA an older car, or if any exemptions might exist for engine/emissions, but obviously the safety requirements might also be a pita to redeem. If it is a low end or common car with little historic merit than then maybe a wide berth is in order.
