Effect of the new V5C

I am currently re-building an Eagle SS  and having a few problems with the DVLA, what’s new I hear you all cry! I do not have the original V5 or logbook and do not know the registration. I applied on the V62 form using the chassis number, as I was advised to do by the DVLA, and paid my £19.00. :irked: They then wrote back and said that my chassis did not exist and I would have to register it as a new vehicle and put it through the SVA. Being based on the unaltered Beetle chassis and using most of the drive train I was not going to have to do the SVA and so as you can imagine I was not best pleased! :shoot: I have since spoken to a number of people, especially from the Nova and Eagle fraternity, who have informed me that I do not have to go thorough all this and the DVLA are wrong. :censored: All I need is proof of manufacture and the DVLA will have to give me an age related plate. I now know the exact birth date of my chassis, 19 Oct 1968 iirc, and have the letter of proof.
My question is this, if the rules were not changing I would wait until the build is nearly complete before registering the car directly as an Eagle SS on an age related plate. With the change in rules am I better off by registering my chassis now as the original Beetle and then altering the registration when the car is back on the road? It seams that every time I try to get a straight answer from the DVLA the Muppet on the other end of the phone doesn’t even know that the rule book exists let along knows the rules! :rage: Having read most of the appropriate rules I have found it hard not to get annoyed with them when they tell you, what are effectively, lies! :phone: :argue: :punch: Does anyone know what effect the new V5c is going to have on my situation?
Many thanks,
Jon

Could be completely wrong here but won't DVLA require proof of registration of you chasis rather than manufacture date? If they've no proof it's ever been on the road , they're going to treat it as a new registration.
What ever you do ,don't rely on advice given over the phone from DVLA.In my experience they're often wrong.Keep pushing and find someone who will give you written confirmation.
