Hiya,
My westfeld has developed a grinding noise under full acceleration from stand still, under normal acceleration it is fine only very hard does it crunch. It seems to be coming from the transmission tunnel. Upon getting on ramps the bolts on the prop shaft are rounded off ( bugger ) but my thinking is that the splines on the shaft are worn. The diff is off an escort mk II and gear box from cortina 2 litre.
My mechanical knowledge is limited and my experience of westfileds is zilch.
Any advice would be appreciated.

1) take propshaft off.
2) wrap it up...old newspapers are fine.
3) send it to Bailey Morris www.baileymorris.co.uk/
4) ask for a new one, salvaging whatever they can that's 'good' off yours
5) wait for nice new propshaft to get delivered.
Seriously though, they made up a custom prop for the tvrolet to mate a Tremek TKO600 to a BTR diff with monster UJs. Good service.

You need to do a bit more investigation before sending the prop off, pop down to your local friendly garage and get their opinion - could be the diff, gearbox, the prop or even the suspension.
If you do need a new prop or to have yours repaired, then I'd recommend Bailey Morris too as above, they really know prop shafts better than anybody else I've come across.
If you live near Playskool or The Kit car Workshop you would get excellent advice and servce form them.

I'm just guessing, here, but it it is only happening under hard acceleration, it sounds like a torque reaction.
Depends what sort of 'grinding' noise it is, but it might just be a loose ore weak engine or gearbox mounting rubber allowing enough movement for the engine or gearbox to come into contact with a chassis tube?
