Help! I'm having trouble tracking down decent brakes for my mk3 cortina. AFAIK Westfields use cortina uprights and many use the Cortina/capri/escort M16 calipers. So i assume that any calipers available for a westy will fit. I'd prefer something like AP or Brembo so if anyone knows where I can get a kit INCLUDING fitting brackets I'd appreciate their help.

I've currently got Mk2 granny calipers which are feeble to say the least, I was considering rwd cossie 4-pots, which at £50 a side are cheap, but having to make up my own brackets has put me off that idea.

I've looked on AP and Brembo websites and both are pretty poor (and thats just cos I'm being polite!)

Any ideas?

Thanks
Jono

Haven't got exact web addresses but try a google search for CAT Motorsport, Rally Design or Hi spec Brakes

Rally Design do lots of kits for Cortina uprights using Wilwood calipers. They include calipers, brackets to make them fit and discs. I've ordered a set for the Sierra uprights on my kit car at the start of the week. They were really helpful on the phone and the delivery was fast and cheap. Just need to get them on the car this weekend now

www.rallydesign.co.uk do good prices on Willwood calipers, which I think can be got for M16 mount. Alternatively, www.hispecmotorsport.co.uk do M16. www.raceleda.co.uk do uprights with M16, and may sell seperately, but they are probably Willwood or HiSpec or something else.

Princess 4 pot calipers will also fit, if you can find a set (all been taken by the Mk2 Escort rally boys!).

You can get the Raceleda calipers on their own, they are actually re-branded Outlaws. Recently got a set for my Westie as they are a direct replacement for the M-16 calipers, no extra brackets are needed.

Thanks, I've heard mixed reports of wilwoods. Someone once told me that they tended to flex a bit too much, hence why I was thinking of AP or Brembo as a better quality alternative. I presume any inherent flex problems would be worse when trying to stop a heavier car like a corty?
That said at least its easy to get a complete kit if I go the wilwood route.
The CAT calipers look very similar to the wilwood 4 pot m16 replacements[====

oops , cat just jumped on keyboard and posted message before I'd finished

Are the wilwood m16 replacments able to be used with larger discs? I'm hoping to upgrade to 280/285 diameter......

I haven't heard of Wilwoods flexing before but it might depend on which model you choose.
I've got their Midilites on Cortina uprights with 260mm Capri vented discs which are excellent.

Hi, I have a Dax Rush with Cortina hubs, and when I fitted a 4.6ltr Rover V8 decided it should have brakes to handle the extra weight /speed. I found that you can buy M16 replacement BREMSPORT billet aluminium 4 pot brakes direct from TAS (Trans Auto Sport) based in Preston area. They were ~ £75 per side 3 years ago, and were developed / badged for Westfield originally, but TAS made sure that they could also market them direct as M16 replacements and Badged Bremsport : something Westfield like them to keep quiet about !!! Give them a try : mine have been excellent and a piece of cake to fit / maintain.

That was something of a bargain then, as TAS now list them at £320+vat (presumably for a pair)

Yes this is the same TAS (Trans Auto Sport) outfit that I got my Bremsports from - they give trade / club discounts too. Probably worth giving them a call and asking for best price, since they are a superb piece of kit and very reliable / fade free even from ~140mph lap after lap.
