I did'nt think you meant THIS cheap!!!

Just to put this into context first, I am going to be 17 next year, and have been browsing around looking at cars. One I really liked was the Mazda MX5, so got a few quotes for insurance. TPFT for a 1.6 MX5, for sale for £4,450 was £4,700+, or £8,000+ for FC.

I put a quote into Footman James for a GTM Rossa K3 which is in the classifieds at the moment, but thought that because of the 1.8 engine it would be uninsurable. I got the documents tonight - TPFT for £1182!!!!!!

So I'd say that its extremely likely that I'll be getting a kit car now!

so if insurance is this cheap, maybe I can get a more expensive car...GTM Libra

Don't forget to give MSM a ring.

Oh and check out the weights of the MX-5 and GTM, then do a power to weight calculation.

Just insured my MK Indy, £7k value, 7k miles per annum, Kawak bike engine (1100cc / 120bhp), fully comp for the year, with me to drive (31 yr old) £151! So I asked if it made a difference if I added my wife to the policy. Came down to £138 for the year.

Cool.

Insurance on kits is amazing, im only 20 now, had a look round last year for insurance on a lotus elise. Like you i found most companies just laugh others quoted in excess of £5000! To be honest whats an elise when compared to a bike engined indy, Now i pay the same amount as i did on my first J reg peugeot 309! role on 21 when things get even cheaper!!!

£380 for a 180MPH kit driven by a 36 year old. Hurrah.

I think the insurance compancies work on the principal that if hit something in a kit car your dead and won't be claiming anyway!

Hi Tim

The car I loked at was this one:
www.pistonheads.co.uk/sales/52785.htm
1.8l engine, 1998, £4k, annual milage of 3k. And the £1182 quote was just me on, so when I add pretty much the rest of my family (or as many people I can think of that will make it cheaper) it should go down again!

Glad you got the DVD
