I have been looking at a few V8 Westfields with a view to buying. Has any one any idea of fuel figs, Is it 15-18 mpg or can the stories of 25+mpg be beleived?

Thanks

Calling Dern,I think you could wish for the upper, but will probably be nearer the lower.Depends on your driving and whether its fuel injected or carb.

I think you need to stop looking if mpg is a factor...unless you're trying to calculate number of fuel stops on the way to le mans?

Sounds about right to me.

15-18 is low and is about what you can expect on a spirited drive in a tuned or carb V8 - but that's generalising.

30 on a cruise is achievable.

I drove mine to VW a month ago and I wouldn't say I was pootling but then I wouldn't say I was driving in a spirited fashion either and I got 14mpg. Mine is a tuned 4.6 producing abou 300bhp and running a big webber carb though.

I am thinking of ditching the carb and fitting a 4 barrel throttle body with a mega-squirt&jolt system and then I'm assured I may get 20mpg or better.

One chap on the USA coast to coast trip this year got about 30mpg with a tvr spec engine and FI.

As you can see, the figure differs based on tune, usage and so on. You can leave it in fifth all the time if you like but you won't because it sounds so good

My old car was a 3.9 efi @265bhp and I would get 30+ on a steady run down in the low 20s giving it some stick.
The new car well thats a different matter bloody thing is gonna bankrupt me got an average of 13mpg over 4000miles in the states with cheap fuel was not really bothered but over here YIKES
Think fuel injection is the way to go and get rid of the 750cfm sat on the top at the moment.

What the hell has it got a 750 on it for? - even my 5.7 chevy lump only had a 600cfm on it - and done similar MPG's - and that weighs nearly two tons with brick like aerodynamics.

My 4.4 bmw pulls 30mpg on a flat motorway at 80mph, westy should achieve that easily.

Remember that a Westie is built like a brick as well. I'm sure I read somewhere that a 7 type car has a drag coefficient of something like 0.7, a normal car is around 0.33.

Barry, given the amount of BHP, and your heavy right foot, with bLIAR's tax scheme, you may well be right..

is Barry's car fast, with a sound that a regular Westie's V-8 can't come close to.....and a lot of fun to hoon around the back roads of the USA2005 trip with
