4.6 ltr V8 Rush IRS , > 25 yr old , 3500 mls per year or less , agreed value , 3 points on licence, ~ £230 full comprehensive with A.Flux and Co. Well tuned bike engined quicker unless you have a passenger, tuned V8 quicker if you do have a passenger and sounds nicer. Downside with V8 is double the exhaust / manifold costs , but the clutch lasts longer than on BECs !
In other words , go for it , and whatever lump you choose it will be fast enough to scare the pants off you and any lucky passengers.

my bike lump is fine around town (but i wouldn't commute in it!). big capacity (1100cc) helps with low down torque, also getting the clutch action right is important. I am using a hydraulic clutch that has good action. even the sva inspector commented "that's odd for one of these (a bike engined kit), you've got a proper clutch, rather than an on / off switch".
Then come to the open road / track and you're off like the preverbial.

Is there any limitation on what engine can be put into a Rush? I've two possiblities I'm considering for the future. Firstly a Rush MC with a v-twin bike engine (possibly the Aprilia Mille lump, a 1000cc 60 degree V-twin that's dry sumped as standard). I'm hoping a v-twin could be mounted transversely a good distance back in the chassis, with the aim of achieving 50/50 weight distribution. The other option would be the AJP8 from the TVR Cerbera in a Rush Quadra. A T5 gearbox is used in the Cerb, so I'm hoping that could mean one could hook the AJP up to the 4x4 running gear as I believe a T5 is also used in the Cossie?. Are these ideas workable?

If you mounted a V twin transversely how would you drive the rear axle? Wouldn't that mean that the drive would have to go though one of the footwells?
Lots of people have TVR V8's in a Rush but i dont think they are the AJP variety. I would guess that if you can get a Chevy small block in a Rush then you could get an AJP in. The Cossie did use a T5 but again, i think it's a different variant from the one used in the TVR's. V8's aren't my field being a cossie owner but the best place to ask is http://forum.rushowners.co.uk/ Lots of V8 in Rush experts on there.

Yes Kevin, a transverse twin would mean some kind of prop shaft would be needed down the length of the chassis, but I presumed the same problem was solved for car engined Rush's, so a similar solution could be utilised here. How does the Rush M/C gets drive to the rear wheels - does it use chain? (please excuse the my ignorance here) Is the M/C chassis sufficiently different to the car chassis that running a propshaft could not be done?

My question about the drive to the rear was more concerned with where the drive would run. All of the Rush variants have a central transmission tunnel with a propshaft but if your engine was transverse, then the drive from the engine would be offset to one side (probably the passenger side). You wouldn't be able to run a drive shaft if the drive from the engine was offset.

The V8 RUSH has a slightly offset / angled engine installation so as to give enough footwell room for 3 pedals in drivers side. This means prop shaft does run at a slight angle , but with universal joints at both ends that's no prob. So a V2 BEC could still be a goer. I rather fancied a Ducati big twin in a Rush, but I can't afford 2 Rushes (I couldn't bear to part with my V8 Rush) , so it's just a pipie dream , but I' love to see someone do it.

Know the car you mean and it is stunning. Got some brilliant in car footage going round the public road section at Le Mans a couple of years ago with John. The exhaust note is fantastic.

Yes JCs car has rightly been featured in Car Mags and become well known in Kit Car circles, it is a beauty. I had the pleasure of being DROC Area Club Secretary for Yorks / Lincs area when John was still bulding his blue beast, so I've seen his engineering / design skills at work over its creation, and the end result, over a couple of years.
Only issue with using an AJP8 TVR engine is fitting catalytic converters into the side pipes : the cats used by TVR are massive things , so that'd be the first area I'd investigate before planning to build one.
