Hi guys
I'm after some advice, i would like to convert my rear drums to disks on my wetfield se, so what i would like to know is what exactly would i need and tips on how to do it or any links, the car has a sierra rear diff/axle, any help or suggestions would be appreciated and one other thing is the cost !!!

Rally Design do a couple of kits that do what you want
One uses VW Golf rear calipers (lighter and supposedly better handbrake mechanism than Sierra) and the other uses a Wilwood rear caliper (lighter still). Both come with mounting brackets and discs.... I think the Golf version is about £200 + VAT and the Wilwood one was a fair bit more.
Other options are to get brackets to mount standard Sierra rear calipers onto your drum hub carriers or to actually replace the hubs themselves, but that involves fiddling around with driveshafts to get the right CV joints to mate with your diff at one end and the disc based hub at the other.

I was going to do the same conversion on my live axled westfield but after doing some weight comparisons between the disc and drum components I ended up just upgrading from 8" to 9" drums and coupled with Ferodo ds3000 pads on the front I'm pretty pleased with the way it stops and I've got a damm good handbrake as well, the money saved can go towards the 4 pots and wide track arms

If you're just looking to change to discs, and aren't into saving every little gram of weight by emptying you wallet for some fancy bits, then you can use the sierra stuff, and you don't need to change all the driveshafts etc. check here; http://nw.rhocar.org/reardiscs.htm

Are you sure about a sierra diff in an SE? If its an early SE with a live axle you will have an escort rear axle.The rally design bits will bolt onto this which is also avail from Burtons.If you have an SE with independant rear suspension,you will have an escort Mk2 diff in a Westfield cast casing.You won't be able afaik retrofit the bits.If you have an SEi you will have the sierra diff and custom length driveshafts with Westfield cast uprights.So be careful what you buy,until you know what car you have.Mail me if you have questions.Cheers

I have a Dax Rush IRS V8 with sierra cosworth rear diff, discs, caliperes etc.
First reply to your thread said he thought VW caliper had better handbrake mechanism than sierra - OH NO IT DOESN'T. If he's on about GTI Golf MK 1 / 2 they had a bullet type component that applied handbrake and was a right pain for sticking and causiing either binding on or inability to apply a useful amount of handbrake pressure
