How quiet can a BEC be ?
Discussion
So what will you be bypassing Wayne? I intend to do this on my GTT but thats to rid myself of a few silencers at full chat.
I must say that this noise thing is something that troubles me a little.... I spent a lot of money making my Ultima a geuine track legal car, and I don't want to be having the same issue with my little BEC.
For that reason I am using the std airbox (yes it does fit under the bonet) and will experiment with decent bike cans to keep the car legal.

My Indyblade has the std airbox mounted upside down to fit under the bonnet and managed 98db static at Oulton. I'm running the standard MK exhaust. Seems a good compromise as a lot of people have issues with BEC noise. A bike can may help further, I may risk booking a day at Donny if I ever get round to acquiring and fitting one.
Edited to say that at pootling revs there's no issue with neighbours in the village. In comparison to my last track car I think they are relieved

Thanks for the replies.
First off I should have mentioned that I live in the middle of the country side in central Italy (Marche) My neighbours are mostly farmers, very nice just not used to seeing/hearing "sports cars" driven with gusto. So in short, to make live easy it is best to keep a low profile in terms of noise (siesta time is taken really seriously!)
Mikey G - "Just drive it slow in the village" - this is kind of what I am planning. The best low-tech approach so far!
Gefopsman - "double glazing" - Don't think the Nuns would go for it.
Andygtt - "std airbox...will experiment" - Very interested how you get on with the MK. Keep us posted with progress on your self built car, looks very promising. Also, why did you sell the Ultima ?
Jubal - "Indyblade...98db static" - Please keep us updated if you have luck with a bike cam and good luck at Donny. "at pootling revs there's no issue" - good news!
Anyone else had much experience with quietening BEC ???

A lot of the noise on mine seems to be from the induction. I dont have an airbox but sock filters instead which would probably make a difference . . .
Works really well ! !
