Hi guys,

I am in search of a countersunk socket head M10x1.25 (metric fine), 60mm long. It is to hold an engine adapter plate on so no stainless. Most suppliers are drawing a blank, can anybody suggest somewhere?

Cheers,
Rich

Moose.

Might help if you let us know who you've already tried. Have you tried Namrick?

www.sasfast.com/index.htm

These guys are near me and have a fairly wide range of bolts, worth a try.

The bolt is for an engine adapter plate, bolting an impreza turbo engine onto a VW box, the problem is the lower two bolts are just where the gearbox mounts are. It would be possible to cut out a section of the rubber and take an angle grinder to the bracket but I'd rather countersink the plate to get a flush surface, it isn't countersunk yet...
You can see the bolt head is holding the whole engine back in this pic:

As you're in Warwickshire have you tried Spa Fasteners in Leamington? Have managed to get some odd fasteners from them in the past.

Might be worth asking bsr-aerotek they do Titanium countersunk in that thread but only 30mm length is on their site.

www.bsr-aerotek.com/store/product_info.php?cPath=271_368_421&products_id=4601

Yeah, tried Spa fasteners, they pointed me in the direction of a place in Birmingham called nuts and bolts or something like that, will try Aerotek next! Last resort may be using a cap head and cutting into the rubber bush...

Thanks for the suggestions guys!

Would it be possible to slot the holes in the bush mounting brackets so you could move it further away to get more clearance?

I've already reversed the trans cradle to push the engine/trans forwards to fit under the bodywork, those quad cam heads are BIG!

How about helicoiling it to take a M8x1.25 thread, or it size matters drill it out and go up to M12?

Cheers,
Rob

Another guy has done that, I'll exhaust all possibilities before that option as I don't fancy risking the engine block on my first helicoil job!

Fair enough

Here's another place:
www.suffolkfasteners.com/
Their claim on the about page might get them into trouble mind!
"IF YOU CANT FIND IT, LET SUFFOLK FASTENERS FIND IT FOR YOU"

My last idea is to have a word with the guys at AllFix
www.allfix.co.uk
They can probably get one made up specially. I was going to have them make me a whopping run of 4 studs, m10 course on one end and M10 fine on the other, blokey said it wouldn't be a problem but cleverly suggested I just buy some longer M10 bolts, cut the head off then thread the M10x1.25 myself, certainly saved myself a few bob there!

Cheers,
Rob

Rich,

I think that thread pitch is often used by Japanese bike manufacturers (certainly Kawasaki)

Maybe worth scouring a few Jap bike breakers?
