Does it make a difference and are there any benefits to age related plate or Q plate.

Personally, I don't really mind either way - but there is a sort of stigma when it comes to owning a Q-plate car (especially if it's a replica).

I think that you would always be better with any plate rather than a Q plate, as they are not understood by the great unwashed, and would hinder a sale.
Age related is trickier, but infinitely more desirable if you are building an age-related kit, a la EVO.

Having owned two previous "Q" reg kit cars (Westfield and Tiger) I can't say it makes much difference to be honest, however, it's true to say an age related plate is more sought after, and generally speaking "Q" registrations are looked down upon by the purists.....

I don't know anyone who has tried it yet but I've a suspicion that a "Q" plated car only has to do the "visible smoke" emissions test on the new computerised MOT. If that's true, it might make them more attractive!

One of the definitions of a Q plate was 'A vehicle of indeterminate age or origin' As the emissions are based on the age of the engine I think the above could well be true.

If you are in a position to influence which plate you end up with I would go with the age related. From first registration or at a later date you can then change it to a cherished plate. If you are building a replica or a kit depicting a certain era (1930's JBA Falcon Roadster) then changing to a plate of that age would be desirable.
