Fran the guy who builds this car came and visited me a while back, he seemed like a very sound guy and I really liked his stuff.

Are you looking for a replica now or not fussy as long as its a tin top?

A lot options are open for my next car realy...but it has to be a "lightweight" car so at least a max weight of no more then: 1200kg but less is better ofcorse...
a lenght of no longer then max: 4300cm shorter I like ofcorse...
and last but not least? a good power to weight ratio...
And I'm no cabrio man(only when the sun is out) so a closed version or at least a hardtop, and I like classic shapes...
So it can be a proper "kitcar" or a nice looking "replica" or a standard special car but those are often to pricie...and I have a big drawback in money now that I have to repair my engine! and change some parts on the car...set me back 6.500,-euro...for me a lot!
And then I have to sell my car also first so no hurry just shopping around and see what can make me happy

The problem I had was that there was nothing out there that fitted the bill, the Ultima wasn't quite there in that it isn't close enough to the User friendly GT car that I want, the cabin was a bit small, a little hard to get in.
I wasted time and money on one kit that turned sour but at least it made me realise what I wanted.
This is why I decided to build my own from scratch.... it's gona be a removable hard top that stows in the front with proper sized doors that you can easily get in AND its gona be faster than my Ultima.
Heaven only knows when it will be finished as its masses of work although I have made good progress in the last 15mths for a one man band.

Sounds like you are doing the same search I was.

Andy, on your profile you are build this, a Mid engine car from scratch with a V12 and twin turbo's ? what monster is it? do you have a name? or is it realy a stand alone car?

Ow...and me thinks Ultima could use that lovely alu chassis tooyes no more drilling in the steel tube for alu sheets that way the steel can rust...?

And yes I'm doing a long search for a car(if money alouds...so not that expensive sadly..say may 40 or 50K euro's) a car that realy kicks in but on a "save" way ofcorse only the brute power may scare/adreline me
I need a update so to speak, the car I drive now is a very good car, around 350hp on 1350kg but thats just not anough, I want something more brute and much lighter too...say around 900kg and around 400hp that car can and will do for the coming time and later on maybe or ofcorse a bit more but for now that would do to play with.

You are looking at real power though..V12 and twin turbo's...just got a video from Dinkel about a tubo GT40 I send the link also http://video.google.co.uk/videoplay?d

I need cars that do something with me, but it has to be a bit reliable...also a bit other then others...just like me, I'm a bit "strange' too hehe...
cheers

I have no name yet only GTT, open to recomendations as to what I should call it!

The car is made from scratch to my design, I am currently making the front body and have been re-designing the headlights as the original design didn't quite look right to me.
I have changed them since this picture by moving them down and slight shape change but you get the idea.

My remit was an easy to use GT car with reliable high performance at a realistic budget, basically an affordable Porsche GT Lol.

Definatelly the hardest and most challenging part is the body... then engine will produce massive performance relativelly cheap and easily (certainly less cost than a SBC).... my only risk regarding the engine is losing control of the spec, I have already increased my power expectation to over 100bhp more than my Ultima... and the engine package I have can produce loads more if I throw money into it.... this is why I am now leaving the engine build till last so I spend what I have left!

Have you condsidered a Turbo Busa powered Lotus Elise? that would be within your budget I think.

Hi Andy, I think if you say to people you've got a GTT its got them wondering what car but it still sounds OK for a fast car.

I think your idea about your car is great, if you can't get it..build it yourself...they are not so many around that can handle that though, and its a long term project.
The origenal shape of your headlights I would not like eigther but I also think that the shape of the tape needs also a bit adjustment? but its looking better alreadyyes

I like the shape of the door! nice lines a bit lambo on the front! nice! are those doors going up too??

The engine power output sounds amazing, nad I think you choose the right thing to leave it till the rest is done and you know how much money there's left to eventualy spend on the car/project
PH could do a article around this car hope you documented all and pictured every step to make a nice story...?
Thanks for sharing your idea's

About the Lotus Elise(wonderfull aluminium chassis) the folowing, I have indeed considerd a bike engined Elise, just like the twin bike engeneerd one on the web...but thats not realy made for longlivety?
Better then put a honda type R engine in a S2 Elise and SC (rotrex) that to around 360hp...
Or buy a 111R and turbo it to around 380<>400hp like they do in the USA
Best ofcorse but also the most expensive way is put that small V8 in it...

www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=306747&f=128&h=0

Hm...I keep dreaming, I only have one garage and not so talented and patient as you are so it have to be ready or almost ready...and all depends on how fast I sell my M coupe(wich first have to be repeared and make it a bit faster at the same time)

Andy,
I think the lights are in danger of starting to look like a Renault spider with how you did the tape, that French coupe (can't remember the name!) that debuted at Stoneleigh was the same...

I can't remember seeing lights the same, I'll have to look for the cars you mean to ensure I'm original if possible. Saying that I've been taking inspiration from quite a few cars in my design so far so maybe I shouldn't worry.

I will post up a picture of my final design over the weekend.

Hi Guys...

I will have a couple of customer GT40's at the NEC show in October....feel free to drop by and say "Hello" to the RCR.UK guys, Chris Melia and Joe Tavani.

The exchange rate is very favourable for buying from the States at the moment...I also have my own car the RCR-P ( www.race-car-replicas.com/RCRPSPEC.html ) for $30k as a wheels/roller complete with suspension and brakes....its available with a transverse FWD or a longitudinal V8 drivetrain by switching out the rear subframe (2000lbs with a V8)...... Let me know what you think.....

Hey Andy..

looks like you have had a busy year...great to see you are still hard at it...

Thats a very nice car Fran...I saw it on the website when I was looking for another car, the GT40...and that lovely aluminium chassis...aaaaaaaaaaaahh why so far away in the USA I live in the Netherlands, and ok they make the Donkervoort and the Spyker cars but almost no nice replica or kitcars...
I like the Idea of a nice lightweight V8 kitcar with roof such as that red car and the GT40 and ofcorse the DDR SP4 and 8 cars...and I prefer a alu chassis because I don't like the idea of a steelframe and then dril hunderds of holes in to ad alu sheets like in a Ultima..thats gona rust after a drive in bad wether and salt on the roads...

Good to hear from you.
I see you have also been busy, those bodies look awsome and I like the blue colour it just seems so right for the shape.

next time you are over you should come round again, would be great to catch up.

Well I did design the shape for the car so I was a little disapointed to find something so similar..... However I have dug some more pictures out of the orange car and I'm now even more the shape is right.

Guess once my car is finished I will have to live with people thinking I copied these lights

Aluminium isn't rust free, it'll turn into grey powder just as quickly as steel turns into brown powder. It needs the right protection to stop this.

Those wishbones may look impressive but they must cost a fortune and I seriously doubt that they are any lighter than a steel tube wishbone for the same strength.

What are the uprights from?

We manufacture ALL of our components for the RCR cars.
The only donor parts on the whole car are the wheel bearings and balljoints, we also have our own steering racks manufactured for us.
Being based in Detroit I have access to 2500 CNC companies within a 40 mile radius should I need them.

A GT40/T70/P4 weighs in at 2300lbs with a SBF or SBC minus fuel.

We use billet for many reasons...strength and production manufacturing being the foremost important ones.....as we do not sell components seperately the cost is insignificant bearing in mind that our cars are all delivered ,as the first picture indicates as a rolling package.

RCR has a background in Indy cars and protoypes including the Ford GT and Saleen S7...so I see no reason why a "component car" should not benefit from our experience at an agressive price.....

Hope this answers a few questions..
