I'm interested in a GTM coupe or K3, can anyone point me in the direction of a GTM forum or antyhing?

Mostly pondering whether their 'exciting' rear engined handling can be overcome with modern tyres etc

The GTM owners club forum over on yahoo, also Team GTM which is a much better forum but you have to subscribe to view (£20/year) and the focus tends to be more on Libras/spyders.

Cheers dude.

Already found team GTM, but thought £20 a year was a bit optimistic for a forum (maybe if I actually owned one already....), so I'll take a a look at the yahoo site.

....can't find it (ironically in yahoo's own serach engine!) don't suppose anyone's got a link?

TeamGTM is the best £20 you can spend if you are even THINKING about buying a Libra or Spyder. The other GTMs are served more cheaply at:

http://14.freebb.com/gtmoc/gtmoc.html

...which is the Owners Club site although membership isn't a pre-requisite...

Coupes are quite sought after now, not quite so much Rossas.

I'm looking at either a coupe or a K3, probably the latter.

Anyone here owned/driven one? I'd love to know a bit more about them? Heard mixed reviews of thier handling. Saw a website where the guy claimed the rear end of his tried to overtake the front every time he hit a bump, meanwhile a friend of mine took one round a track and said how wonderfully controllabel it was (and he drives a fury)

I've had both a GTM Coupe and a Rossa, both were good cars.

I'd have said the Rossa was the better handling of the two, more practical, plus a bit more roomy inside. Also as the Coupe has a metal tub they can have problems with rust considering their age now.

Thanks, thats useful to note. Ahh, I see you're a 2+2 owner too this is sort of a replacment for mine. Hoping it'd be somewhat quicker and satisfy the need for RWD.

How would you describe the handling? Heard some people say they're downright scary, others say sublime and controllable. I'm a bit confused....

(I suppose some may be built-to-build variability)

The Rossa had great handling, but was built with adjustable suspension. I used it as my everyday car for a couple of years and had no scary moments in it at all.

The Coupe I had was built on more of a budget and was a bit of a handful in the wet, but I've driven alot worse. It was an early one with 10" wheels. I did have some problems with the rear suspension mountings snapping though.

The later K3 that came after the Rossa used the hydogas(?) suspension from the metro rather than the mini stuff. I'm not sure what the handling would be like on one of those.

They are both good cars, but the Rossa or K3 would probably be better for regular use. Plus the bonus of a removeable hardtop.

Thinking just about my ideal buy would be a 1.8 VVC powered K3, saw one in the back of a kit car mag for not a lot recently, but don't have the cash to hand just yet.

The VTEC powered coupe I saw advertised would have been quite fun too

I can imagine that you think 20 pounds is a bit steep, specially if you don't know what you are going to get. As said, Team GTM focus mostly on the Libra and Spyder, so possibly not that interesting for you.
It took me a while to convince myself spending 20 pounds on a club which for me was mainly use of their forum was a good idea. Team GTM does do a lot more than a forum, but since I live in The Netherlands their trackdays etc are of little use to me.

Nevertheless, the 20 pounds spend on a year subsciption to Team GTM for me is the best spend 20 pounds ever. Very knowledgable group of GTM owners and builders, and since the forum is not accessible for non members the subjects are highly focussed.

Here's an advert for Team GTM.

I've certainly got more than the membership fee back in help when building my car. Sometimes unbelievably quickly.

I've certainly saved more than the membership fee in avoiding mistakes during the build.

I've had my money's worth in fun with other slightly mad people doing exactly the things I like to do.

I've had plenty of laughs as well.

Team GTM, an essential resource for the Libra/Spyder builder.
