I've never been a big fan of the RV8 7's, and much as I like the Chev LS engines they don't work for me in a 7.

THIS is the V8 to have in a 7:

http://dpcars.aprsworld.com/dp1test/i

Brammo 2.6 litre V8 (ie 2 Hayabusa engines)

DP is using his Brammo engined Atom as a test bed for the DP1 which will use the V8.

MMM I love little lightweight cars with a V8 in it ok maybe not always the best for track or racing in some cars, but wellbalanced and for fundriving its a big grin on your face and you don't always have to rev such car to enjoy.
That "new" type V8 sounded nice, even only on the testbank and if they can get 400hp out of that later on that will be a real blast!! and mostley those V8 engine's are light too!

In such lightweightcar you don't need such high torque levels(that would be to tricky) its power and sound in a smooth way all up to maybe 10.000rpm!! thats like riding a bike that is something your small block can't do me thinks(at least not long hehe)
I hope though they can get those engines a bit reliable to do at least a lot of miles before they go bang...

im with you.. Its the silly-ness thats so appealing to me.. And on the track it still rips most things.. so im not convinced a about the 'lesser' handling issue either..

it makes me smile just to think how ridiculous it is!

I envy you guys to have a V8 in such a light car must be awesome its one of only about 5 cars I have to own in my lifetime. It would cheer me up on a cold winters evening to just sit in the garage and listen to the roar of the engine (Can't imagine it would cheer my neighbour up though)

Barry Ashcroft is helping me to build (ok he's building and I'm scratching my bollox and making the coffee)a new V8 Westfield early next year, The engine is a Rover 5 Litre V8, 320bhp with 350lbs torque, nitrons, AP brakes and and everything in black, should be ready May 06, looking forward to driving it!

What's "need" got to do with anything?

I do hope that you are either A/ Wearing gloves whilst scratching said items, removing them and then and only then making Mr.Ashcroft a hot refreshing beverage using essentially boiled water, ground beans or an instant type variety thereof and possibly a splash of bovine liquid more commonly known as 'milk' or B/ Maybe you have wrongly recited the sequence of events and made the coffee first and then scratched yourself but then again knowing Barry, I can't imagine him giving a shite any which way. From what I have seen of the mans ability and nouse, you are truly in for a treat come May 2007. Keep on keepin' on thumbup

Oh yeah, I nearly forgot, my ride weighs 1100Kg and has 616ftlbs of 434ci Small block Chevy and it STILL aint enough!

I dunno, maybe I'm stuck on the 'character' issue. A 7 style car follows Chapman's basic ethos: add lightness. I like the M/C engined 7s but have always felt they would be a bit of a chore on the road. A Brammo V8 to me is the ultimate 7 engine. (previously I always wanted a Cosworth DFV powered 7 )

An Ultima, however, if I ever afford one, would definitly have a LS engine. Again, it suits the character of the car (IMHO)

O/T I'm currently searching for a LS2 HSV Commodore so I'm not averse to torque...

As long as it is V8 powered I think it suits the character of the car. The sound and feel are far more obvious than being able to decipher the actual type of V8 being used.
