i have an escort rolling shell and an engine (stage 3 RST)and a box of wires and other stuff. i bought it all as a box of bits with a view to build it all back up.
the shell was rusted and thrown in for free.
what with the shell rusty as it is i am looking for a new one, but i have thought of building a kit car using the RST engine and selling the boxes of bits that i dont need.
i was looking at an mk indy. will it be any good.

thanks

simple answer is - it'll be as good as you make it!

The joy of kit building, what you kit you begin with is just a starting point. What you end up with depends on what you can put into it.

will a turbo engine be as good as NA- Get real
remember the all important rule Power to Weight!
how much extra power- how much extra weight.
in a 7 style car that is what it all comes down to,
the parts will be matched to the car so its a good route
(check your insurance first if you are young)

One of the reasons that you don't see many turbos in kit cars is the high temperatures that turbos can reach. Put a hot turbo next to a steel panel and the panel gets hot, put it next to a fibreglass panel and you can have a fire on your hands.

Make sure you fit a heat shield (a metal panel) between the exhaust/turbo housing and the bodywork.

My mate had a Sylva Striker with a Fiesta RS Turbo engine in it, tuned to about 220 bhp and shot 6ft flames from the exhaust. It was absolutely MENTAL but near on undrivable at serious speeds, as when the boost came in it did what the hell it liked, be it hooking up nicely or laying huge black lines and pitching sideways. The driver did not have a lot of say in it. My personal opinion is leave turbos well alone in a 7 type or make sure you have a nice smooth powercurve. Over a twisty lap, 150 of NA power would probobly murder it.

The sad truth here is that you should never choose a kitcar based on the donor bits you have too hand.
Building a kit takes time and commitment. If you choose something based only on what works with your bits you will not have that level of commitment and the project will grind to a costly standstill.

For the moment put the bits to the back of your mind and choose a kit you really want to own and drive AND that would fit your build budget. If you then find your engine and 'box will fit so much the better. If not, sell the whole lot and start in on the project you really want.

Having been in Ruaris car it is, indeed, bordering on lunacy. 300+ bhp and 650kgs. But I rekon a 480kg Hayabusa Fury be quicker round a lap due to handling and power delivery, I think that his car wheelspins at 100mph in the dry. No contest in a straight line though, i think he has been through a speed trap at 165mph or something!!!!
He is also one of the best drivers i have sat next to, probobly the reason he is still alive!

What about Sylva Mojo2?

Will it fit with the turbo?

As you could use more of the parts.

I think the Mojo was designed with the CVH in mind, so a good option if you want to use your engine. Will be very fast, just watch the heat and that boost kicking in!

i was thinking of only using the engine. and getting a sierra as a donor and getting a mk indy.
i am planing to sell all the bits bar the loom and engine from the RST.

or what other kits ues the cvh engine.

my thoughts were to use the engine (RST) because i got it for a very good price and its had a lot of work done to it,

or would you suggest selling it all and doing the sierra thing with the sierra engine

Although there are kits that use the CVH or indeed could be adapted, the easiest route would be to sell all the bits you've got (which must be worth a reasonable amount if it's basically a kit RST) and buy a donor for the kit you want - so yes, as you said..

..Unless you like a bit of a challenge - then go for it with the cvh!
