Hello,

I'm looking at purchasing an MNR Vort-X but need to start saving some pennies first!

I'm trying to plan it out by gathering as much info as possible, costs etc. I would be going down the bike engined route (Yamaha R1) and someone would be building the car from scratch for me rather than buying one from new. I've checked out some forums like the Locost builders, MNR's website and also read some posts that people have written about their builds. Unfortunatley I'm not very mechanically minded so it kind of goes over my head.

I just need to know some things, I beleive the kit itself can be bought from MNR for around £3,200. Apart from buying the enigine, are there any other parts that are needed to build a Kit Car from scratch or do you get everything supplied with the kit?

Also do the brakes etc come with the kit from MNR or would they need to be bought seperatly, and how much would I be looking at for an engine, clutch, loom etc and all the other bits?

Sorry for all the questions. Any help or advice would be much appreciated.

Regards

Marc

I know you have mentioned locostbuilders already but that's the site that is populated by the largest group of MNR owners/builders I can think of so got too be the best place for the info your looking for, there is an MNR section and Marc posts on there regularly too.

edit too add, you will be hard pushed too find a better supplier of bike engines, (Malc aka Yorkshire engines) he posts and advertises regularly on there too.

R1 + all the gear except exhaust, under £1k.

I thought the engine and that would be more than a grand TBH. Thanks for the info. I'll have a look through the website in more detail. There's so much information available it's unreal, thanks for your help again.

He sounds like the man when it comes to sourcing engines, I'll keep him in mind when I finally get round to making a start on things.

Hi

You have a lot of research to do Sir!

I'm building a Vortx RT+ (collect my kit in 33 days!) and have a garge full of stuff ready for the build.

Major parts include:
Donor running gear ie. uprights, hubs, differential, driveshafts etc from Ford Sierra/Cortina
Brakes - all reconditioned - I'll upgrade to lightweight stuff next Xmas
R1 engine and ancillaries
Tyres, Wheels
Seats
Radiator, fan and cooling components.

In short the Starter Kit price excludes a LOT of stuff. Get yourself on Locostbuilders!

Yeh, know what you mean. I'll need to do quite a bit of research before I do anything, didn't realise that a lot of the gear you have to buy seperate, I'm on Locost Builders now so I'm going to gather as much info from there as possible. Thanks for your help anyway, good luck with the build.
