I'd put in an Omega box, it'll fit straight onto the engine and I've had two Omegas, thrashed the nuts off them and never had a gearbox break. I dont know if the 2.2 diesel Turbo box is a beefed up version but that box has to cope with significant torque, and IIRC its torque that kills gearboxes.

SBD do a bellhousing to Ford gearbox, very common for Westfields and de-rigour for hot-rod racers. I would go for a rebuilt Ford gearbox, all of the shelf bits.
