This is indeed the CC Cyclone. The project was offered for sale a number of years ago and I looked into purchasing it at the time. Indeed I was going ahead with making an offer and travelled up to make my formal offer on a Friday night. On arriving at the premises first thing Saturday morning I was told that the project had sold late Friday night. Bugger!
What was then really frustrating was the sad demise of the Cyclone when the guys who bought it fell out and ending up destroying the tooling. A crying shame as the car had loads of potential and a new body style almost finished.
Still, the end result of missing out on this one and a few others along the way is the Murtaya which we make now so it is not all bad!!
Neil.

Thank you for the offer Italo, but you must understand, as a professional car designer, I cannot just create images unless I get paid, sorry.

I will not post anything on a forum unless it has been paid for or been signed in a contract to say I can show the designs off.

I am working on and off creating a sports prototype while I am studying for my masters degree.

I think that's going to be a lonely existence if you are not prepared to show your ideas.
Italo has posted sketches on here many times and has gained the respect of the PH collective and hopefully gone on to make money out of it.
Nobody is asking to see designs that have been commissioned just your thoughts on this design.

I need to cover all bases, people can and do steal peoples work from forums. I would rather send my work off to the company and see what they say.

All I can say is Aerial Atom!

Im not saying any more on the subject of plagurism or outright theft of designs.

Richard,
Just for the sake of discussion, even if off topic..., if you are a car designer or any designer for that matter, your ultimate goal is to see one of your designs on the road, or product in the market.

That is the driving force for a designer, and not money or other, and if it's money you're after, than you're in the wrong business....

We all need money for a living, and I agree that, the more the better, but if you're starting out, as I understand you're still at UNI, why not grab the chance of a small manufacture, who is willing to invest on your sketch/design?, how many car manufacturers do you know, that are willing to do that with an unknown designer?

If you're concerned that someone might steal your 5-10min. very rough sketch or doodle from a forum, than you're understimating what entails the production of a real car....and missing the point.
I have experienced someone that stole my sketches, but that is part of the game, and if you find out about it, and you always do, you can come to an accomodation with the person......

I met quite a few young Italian designers waiting for the big break to come by, waiting that phone call from Ferrari, Lamborghini, Maserati, Fiat, Alfa Romeo, Lancia, a call that never came, years passed and they let other opportunities shy away, because working for a smaller outfit would have looked demeaning for them!!

In reference to plagiarism, the guy that penned the Atom now works in California at VW, in the meantime he has penned a kit three wheeler called the SUB3Wheeler....and people in the design world. know who penned the Atom.

You had asked for freelance design work, and this is something you could have considered, but there is nothing wrong in not accepting the offer, others will !

Nothing personal, Just my 2 pence..

Cheers
Italo

I think it's very sad that a number of folk on the scene or in the biz play their cards so close to their chests. We are a cottage industry and our hobby/biz benifits when our ideas are pooled as indeed they often are. I am always sharing knoledge. Anyone with design skills could do well by posting ideas and getting feedback. I cant see how a designer can build a reputation for themselves without showing what they are capable of, so the forum provides a wonderful opportunity. I hope guy's dont assume that it's only people that are passionate about kits that are viewing, wouldn't be a bit surprised if the big boys are looking in. They are unlikely to just pinch a sketch but they may offer a designer a job if they are impressed. Just my opinion, kind regards Stig Mills
MATE OF MINE COMPLAINED THE OTHER DAY WHEN I SAID I WOULD SELL HIM A KIT AT COST AND THEN ASKED HIM FOR £500 ON TOP OF LIST PRICE !!! Get it. Have fun, kind regards Stig

Whilst I agree that you have to show some of your work for people to see if that work is any good, I can see where rcarr is coming from to be honest. Whilst some people might think it sounds arrogant to refuse to show your work, fact is that it is extremely difficult to get anyone to pay money for a design. There are a lot of people who want something for nothing and think they are doing you a favour just by looking at your designs. Sad but true. The attitutde seems to be "Do the work and if we like it, and if it sells enough, we might pay you." Erego, lots of butt-ugly kit cars. It needs to be better, but it's a 2-way street to make it better.

Matters of the Ariel Atom and plagiarism are more complex than people realise and would certainly violate the rules of naming and shaming on this board.
