From my pinto powered tiger...

does anyone know how to remove the sprocket in the photo? i cant fit a puller down between the casting and the sprocket. so have no idea how to extract it from the crank. the pulley was a nightmare so i can only assume this will be just as ridgedly stuck in place. haynes suggestion was to use a puller if necessary. they didnt indulge in details like how it would fit in such a tiny gap!

Haynes helpfully says use a large screwdriver to 'ease' the sprocket from the crankshaft.

That just about covers it. You can only get a screwdriver behind it and then some sort of fulcrum behind that to lever against.

Start with a decent release oil i.e. not WD40 as it's crap.
Try giving the sprocket a few decent thumps on the end with a tube or large socket which will help to break it free from the rust.

Good luck

cheers steve,
i have left some 3 in 1 penetrating oil soaking on it at the moment. hopefully just prising it off will work. i was just scared it would be on as tightly as the pulley. i guess that may have had a draft on the pulley which made it so hard to remove rather than the crank.

Those things can be little buggers to remove. You could try heating it up with a gas torch then give it the suggested thumps.

Seem to remember having actually used the cover behind it to prise one off (big screwdrive down each side) though that does risk breaking it.

Best of luck.

i attacked it after work. I gave it a bit of a heat then prised it off using the plate to lever against. it was pretty tight but is now off.
now i just have to replace the cast part that was already broken and stick it all back together!!!
thanks for the input guys.
