I sure some of you clever bods on here will know this one...

I'm just about to do an engine and gearbox swap in my Vindicator Sprint, and the gearbox going in is the venerable type 9. Trouble is, I don't know what oil to put in the gearbox or how much.

Is it a gear oil, or like some gearboxes I have come across, a 20W/50 (MG Midget gearbox in case you are wondering), and how much?

Thanks in anticpation

Seem to remember the Type-9 in my old 2.8 Capri needed ATF (Automatic Transmission Fluid) - the red stuff.

Make sure you use GL4 NOT GL5 spec oil. I was told to do this by BGH gearboxes when I got my racing type 9.

Thanks for the advice folks, first of all I've got to assemble the engine crane I've just bought, so I can get the old engine/gearbox combo out.
