Bloody DVLA
Went down to the DVLA office in edinburgh this morning after waiting in a queue for about 45 minutes spoke to one of dumbest people on the planet.
First of all they weren't happy with the chassis number given to me by Sylva 9 digits of letters and numbers wasn't random enough so they have now issued me with a 17 digit number which won't fit on the sylva supllied chassis VIN plate and has been stamped on a seperate piece of aluminium. Now the car has to be inspected by the DVLA which entails a 50 mile round trip to confirm a chassis number and the engine number.
Then I asked for my insurance certificate back or a copy so I could drive the vehicle. "You can't it's illegal on not having tax or plates". No, love, I've checked you can as long as it's for a pre arranged garage appointment etc. They won't take the SVA's word for the engine number as they are different agencies but they are still singing from the same hymm sheet. SO I have to go all the way over to Livingston for some bloke to check the engine number and chassis number which will take all of 5 minutes to do before I can get a tax disc and plates. Then the next day I'm back on deployment for 4 months.
Why do they have to make it so f%&king hard.

Welcome to my world.
I did have someone from the DVLA spend 15 minutes explaining to me that they did not have the 30 seconds spare to inspect the chassis number. Go figure?
I ended up with an 80 mile 2 1/2 houl round trip the following week for the 30 second inspection. Nice.

I had exactly the opposite experience. I couldn't make the date they requested so they said I could bring the car in there and then. I was late but they still waited for me to inspect the car. They phoned me up twice later, chasing me for documents and registered the car in record time.

I was pleasantly surprised by my local DVLA (Chelmsford) office. After dropping the documents off to them (all catalogued in a ring binder) they gave me an inspection appointment two days later followed immediately by my new registration certificate. I was off to the numberplate maker straight away and on the road the same afternoon.

latest: I was told yesterday that someone would ring by lunchtime today I would be contacted about a time for the inspection.
Rung at 1145 told someone would contact me by 1345, no call came. I rung again at 1415 and was told someone would definately ring me by 1615. Again no call came so rung again at 1630 and was told I would be called in 30 minutes. still no call. Rung again just after 1700 and was told the local office had now shut so they might call first thing or maybe I should ring them.
I asked they guy on the other end of the phone what the hell were they doing there or is it amateur hour at the DVLA.
Useless, just bloody useless.
