RAC roll bar on a westie?
Discussion
Hi,
Viewed a westie the other day and had no weather gear and when i asked the owner about putting some on he said that due to the RAC roll bar the weather gear would need to be modified. I done some research myself and westfield sell an RAC roll bar cover would this need modifying or not ?
Regards

For this sort of question you're best off searching/asking on www.wscc.co.uk as it's all been covered many times. Basically as far as I'm aware the latter rac roof that westfield supply will fit over the rac bar. Also many people have found that the older roof will also fit over the bar but without the folding frame thing fitted. However, other people found that the orginal roof won't fit their cars with the rac rollbar installed but can be modified by sewing in an extra inch or two material.
In any case the rac rollbar is the one you want and the non rac rollbar is purely cosmetic and will not protect you in the event of an accident... basically you may as well not have one.

I had a Westfield years ago, so my input may be out of date.
If you had no roll bar or a small cosmetic one, the hood was held up with sticks. Same as traditional hoods (like a pram hood).
If you had a high roll bar (RAC type), this then became the support. A much better option.
The hoods where different due to sizing & supports, obviously.
If its not a Westfield bar then a 1 off could be made by a specialist.

The origanal hood was not designed to be used with an RAC bar, however Westfield found there was interest in having a hood which did work with the RAc bar and now produce one. Call the factory and get the info. Hoods seldem get used however as they are difficult to get in the car with them on, slow to erect, especially when raining. and don't keep all the rain out. Pulling over and getting under a golf umberella works for me, or keeping going where the rain goes over your head.
