Calling STM Phoenix Owners
Discussion
Hi All,
I am seriously thinking about building a STM Phoenix and I wanted to get some advice from some owners first. I am lucky enough to be able to get my hands on a Cosworth tuned Duratec Engine running 200+ BHP and I want to know if this would be a good engine for this car.
Also excluding the engine how much does it cost (roughly) to build a STM Phoenix (A road going one that can be used on the track).
Finally what sort of build time am I looking at?
Cheers,
Omni

Yes, the Duratec is an good engine for that car IMHO.
I race a Sylva Phoenix, predecessor to the STM version, in the 750mc series, with a Zetec engine. Next year the regs are likely to go 2.0 Duratec (std internals, throttle bodies, basic EMS) so might be worth to making the car legal for that series....
In terms of cost, then it all depends on what parts you use, like shocks, brakes, gearbox etc, but I'd say you'd need ~10K to make a good job of it. There was a new car build racing at Brands last w/e.....20K was the guys estimate....but then that had a 5K engine in it.
Time? Depends on your own facilities, abilities and commitment....somewhere between 1 and 12 months would be an estimate!
Sorry that's all a bit vague....the deterministic bit is buying the basic kit.

Any thing with 200 + will be good in a Phoenix. My car was built for me in the UK and I have a complete cost break down, it was 8,400 in 2002, on top of this I provided the engine gear box and back axil from my rally car. And of course the cost of the labour. Again my car is a JP supplied one not STM.
My car was far from a budget build, all new instrements, paint, new wheels, radiator, and the engine ws rebuilt with new beaings etc, So I agree 10 is a realistic budget for the material for a good build.
