Lotus Elan replica
Discussion
There was a really awful kit car called the Elysee Sprint a few years back and a PistonHeader is threatening to put the Vegantune Evante back into production, but nothing at the moment.
Seems a bit pointless, to be honest - you can buy a real one for less than it would cost to build a decent replica, and almost all parts are available (a few odds and sods like rocker switches and electric window motors are getting difficult to find, but nothing critical), so why bother?
If you want modern performance and reliability, there's always the Spyder Zetec conversion. If you really wanted to, you could build a Spyder Elan from scratch, but it would cost a lot and would not benefit from the free road tax that you get (in the UK) with the genuine (or Spyder converted) car.
As for the MX5 as a donor, you'd be surprised how big an MX5 is compared to the genuine article. I guess you could use some of the drivetrain, but if you are thinking of a bodykit type conversion, there's no way it could come close to authenticity!
