I recently purchased a Sylva Phoenix.
Though road registered it has not been road legal/road used as it has been competing in the 750MC kit car class and trailered to events.
The speedo drive out of the (4 speed) box is too close to the chassis to fit the cable and/or an elbow so I'm thinking of an electronic speedo and as i'm sure others have been in a similar situation wanted to know what options I have.
I have looked on the Speedy Cables website and it seems a bit vauge, from what I can tell approx £130 for a speedo head and approx £40 for a transducer kit though I don't know if I need anything else.
Another product I came across while looking was this:

www.trailtechproducts.co.uk
Vapor Kit Car Computer
OUR PRICE
£70.00 inc. Tax

This is a complete Vapor installation kit. Comes with Trail Tech Vapor computer, power wire, RPM sensor, temperature sensor, speed sensor and instructions.

Optional indicator dashboard.

Model: Vapor
Head Size: Size (L)110, (W)59, (H)23mm
Kit Includes: Computer, Temp Sensor, RPM Sensor, Sensor Cable, Magnet
It seems to be a complete kit that is really designed for bike applicatons but I can modify the dash to make it sit flush.
Is anyone using one of these or any knowledge of them ?

I would prefer to stick with an anologue style speedo for ease of fitting but the Vapor does seem to have a lot of features for the money ,(plus it's one of the few products I have come across where it's cheaper here than in the USA)

regards
Gareth

Hey that's a good price but having made my own speedo set up (pulse switch on outboard front disk brake)having the instrument is just the start of the battle...enjoy anyway.

Hi Gareth,

I have a unit which appears almost identical to this one (mine was supplied through Tifosi and is the same apart from the branding!).

I have it fitted in my rally car and it works fine. Take a little bit of time getting the wheel speed sender unit really well installed, and getting the calibration correct and it will be fine.

I made up a recessed panel on which to mount it (so it appears flush in the car) and I have been really happy with the performance and features.

I have a remote zeroing unit which my navigator uses at the start and end of the stages, records total and split times, and calculates average speed for the stage as well.

Neil.

I have an SPA Racing digital speedo / odometer / timer system (as used in Formula Fords etc) in my Dax Rush 4.6ltr. I used 2 trigger magnets on the rear LSD diff output CV joint body : araldited onto a rough filed flat on 2 opposing sides of the CV joint body. Also have fitted a heavy duty 8mm wide / 2mm thick inductrial cable tie around them just in case the glue doesn't hold. 5 yrs later still working very accurately and no problems calibrating it up using rear wheel / tyre circumference as the guide to distance travelled per trigger. The guage you're looking at is a fair bit cheaper than the SPA one - looks a nice piece of kit for the money.
