looks like another option for a 240z rebody... what is involved in making a replica?

Not that I know of, but you've hit on my all time favourite Aston Martin.....http://www.automotoportal.com/photos/10-most-beaut...

There is a laughable body conversion available for MX5s.
Don't forget a DB5 replica needs a straight six (240Z probably wouldn't be a bad start!) and a period interior
PS I saw one of those Virage replicas base on a Granada last year. You could see the RHS that supported the body poking out under the sills. Why? Just why....

can anyone remember who did the conversion to a capri(I think it was) must be 20Years ago or more now and always looked like it should be put down. Seriously there has been discussion about one but it would be a few years before it hit the streets due to other stuff and was originally going to be part of a racing series where the same chassis had a number of different body options. Was not going to be for UK release though but would have been extremely accurate extrenally if you know what I mean.

Dave Why not recreate a new shape inspired by the Aston Martin, on a modern platform like the mx5, just a few roughs...........

That's nice! Did start thinking whether or not there was a market for a bespoke MX5 coupe (obviously supercharged and retrimmed!)
ChrisI think there is, but very few appealing rebody designs of yet in Europe, apart from the Retroforza,........but Japan has done quite a few, and are always coming out with more every year.
I believe something similar was happening in the sixties in the UK, with the spitfire and midget models, when a few kitcar manufacturers offered, different coupe bodies ...the mx5 platform could become a perfect little sportscar to rebody........

I agree entirely. Not wishing to digress, but the best rebody I've seen recently is for a Spitfire. A GT6 style coupe that was I think based on the LeMans Spitfire, very serious looking bit of kit.
Going back to the original point - actually posted in the MX5 forum the other day (I have one for my sins) to find out if anyone had done it yet. Reckon a truly compact, reasonably quick, very fine handling coupe based on a mk1 MX5 could be sold for sub £20,000. Give it a supercharger and keep the weight down on the retrim and it should keep up with an elise. Do the job nicely and you could end up with something more exclusive than the Lotus too. Perhaps I'm a snob (ok, almost undoubtedly!), but as an example I'd have slight reservations about buying an old BMW, but an Alpina using a BMW shell is a rather different matter.
Really do like those sketches. Something slightly reminiscent of the new Alfa 8C, which is no bad thing! Give it a hatch back and a sensible luggage area and I'd definitely buy one over, say hmmm.... I don't know. Can't really think of any affordable, RWD, driver focused, small coupes. Shame, because I think theres a real market for one.
