Discussion
I just wanted to let those kitcar fans considering a new cobra about my experience of the new RV python.
This car is the one based on the e34 bmw 5 series. Mine is using a baby 525i as that sounded like a big engine back in the days when I knew nil about cars. still we live and learn .should get 170bhp at mid to high 20's mpg .
I'm just correcting some of my mistakes to resit the sva test and should pass easily when their fairly embarassing checklist of missing lockwashers and uninsulated wiring is sorted out!
The car drives well so I'm happy +++
all the way to the test centre and back!
The build was straight forward and well explained by the build manual. Vince was easily contactable via email and phone either when he was in the uk or occaisionally while he was in Sri Lanke, as I can be impatientand impulsive!(hence the cobra....)
Aftersales care has been high quality timely and reliable.
Vince has made a modified rollbar bracing support for me as I decided to use the rollbars as seatbelt harness mounts and posted it out to me for arrival within a week of asking. The chassis is solid and well braced and very stiff. Vince made up a pressed ali dashboard for me to my design and the quality of the fibreglass double skin/poly sandwich throughout is exceptional and has drawn praise from engineer friends and the bodyshop who painted it.
Any questions?
Their association with Peter Filby form whichkit car magazine as uk sales team led to them being drawn into the firing line a bit from Kitcar magazines boss who is an old and bitter enemy of Peter Filby. all rather Dallas and petty and this has caused some concern amongst potential customers. I read all the filth with amusement as my car is really great and RV dynamics have been as well.......
If you are in any doubt re this companies service and product then don't be, they are all helpful and have a gem of a product. Happy economical miles lie ahead.

Before this gets locked....
It was the advertisment of a car which DIDN'T EXIST at the time of the advertisment which claimed how well made it was and how well it handled etc that started the fight. I remember CLEARLY. It was spun into the Den/Filby war by others who tried to conceal this fact.

I'm delighted for you. Although there is the odd person about who might feel differently about RV Dynamics....

Yes.... Can we see some pics?I agree that the advertisement for the python alleged that the car was up and running and completed . i agree that that seems to have been untrue. I thnak you for your comment re this. if it was the uk python sales team i.e peter filby who made this error of judgement then this was rather reprehensible. Vince has been honest and honurable ++ with me.
The car is great though and whatever the shady sales practices of the past itseem to be a good setup now! I deal directly with Vince anyway and can't see how anyone else couldn't do the same. My hardtop is on its way soon without dealing with the uk characters.
One thing about my car is that I am a struggling amatuer when it comes to trimming and the like and will pay for a professional to do the honours at some point in the future. Anyone looking at pics would need to have that in mind....

"pride and joy" sarcasm is childish though....
'Pride and Joy' or alternatively 'P&J' is a very common phrase on this Forum and certainly not 'childish'..... I have to say that as such a newcomer calling the Moderator of this forum 'childish' is not the greatest idea.
If you've taken the time to read back what has been said on here about the Python, you may also have noticed Vince's attitude to various members of PH...... I'm not very impressed.

I will deliberatelly pick my words carefully. As another customer of RV Dynamics my expereince is the complete opposite and I would not recomend them to my worst enemy......
I now know that much has been made up to justify why I am an unhappy customer, so anyone wanting to see why I am unhappy is welcolm to come around and see the parts I was supplied and the signed orders and reciepts and even the emails I received (I paid MORE for the parts than agreed).
And for the record in case its not clear, Yes I am bitter but then I have lost £6k.
The fact that you have been able to build your car from RV means that you have done much better than me so well done.
I really genuinelly hope all customers now have the same experience as you.
I guess you already know the history on here over RV, I was orginally right in the thick of it defending RV about what I felt was unjust attacks because of the PF links you mention, but it doesn't change my bad expereince with RV.
I hope you don't read my negativity about RV as hostility against you or your car, I am genuinelly pleased you have built a good car and hope to see it at a show sometime.
Just to add that I always dealt direct as well and never used the suposed shady characters, in fact on the only occasion I did meet with PF he seemed OK to me.

As Ferg said, P&J is a very common term, not only on this forum, but on PH as a whole."pride and joy" sarcasm is childish though....
Please excuse my scepticism, but given the history (just use the search function, as I do not want more of the same old same old being regurgitated here) then any newcomer posting such gushing comments about this particular marque will always cause a few eyebrows to be raised.
If you have genuinely built a car that you feel proud of, then excellent..... we will all wish you many happy hours of caning the tarmac!
Don't worry about the trim either.... because everyone knows that a kit car is never "finished"... there is always something else that "really needs doing - just to finish it off"
Python,
Couple of points, don't fret over failing the 1st SVA, lots of others have had to go through twice.
As for trimming, the best Cob in the world with a naf trim job will always look horrible, bite the bullet and pay a professional to do it - it will look a million dollars.
Good luck and lets see some pics (we're born nosey round here :-))

actually I'm going for a set of non original look cobra seats for a bit of whiplash protection. They should also help avoid being scalped by the rollbars in the event of a rear end shunt. personal taste but will prob offend most purists! they are black tho'
Overall cost is something I've had my head in the sand over. Prob around £12,000
Paint job , shiney bits and image wheels are all costs that are universal. Factor in a donor car of your choice eg 3.5i V8 or etc and ford or chevy or a uk V8 if you desire and the shiney bits and pieces and you can pretty much calculate the likely costs inadvance .The donor car at least comes with engine and if a god one brakes , diff etc though I elected to buy new for all the braking system. You need an old spitfire clutch master cylinder but these are pretty cheap.
The chassis and body are not desperately cheap when you look around but the chassis is hot dip galvanised and needs no prep and will not rust. The body is double skinned fibreglass/foam sandwich throughout! That is actually quite a feat and makes for a light and strong setup. Thus quality is high for the price. That is a major factor for me and is something they don't push in their adverts . I think they risk giving themselves a cheap image for what is a quality product and so put off a lot of people who have the cash to do a cobra but choose another brand.
Still I do think there are a few companies around who also do a lovely cobra replica so it's horses for courses in the end.

Uhh isnt the chassis made in Sri Lanka from recycled Baked Bean tins or was I reading wrong?
Now this is all IMO of course but whyever you could choose a Python over something like a Pilgrim Sumo is really beyond me, the sumo has itself long established in the Cobra replica industry, the Python hasnt, its just got bad reviews, everywhere apart from Which Kit?(
) it has been torn to shreds by a BMW magazine etc etcI wish you the best of luck with your cobra and I hope you enjoy it but I and I think many others would have chosen a different Cobra replica.

You could apply this argument to all the new 7 replica firms out there, why buy anything other than a CaterField?

It's currently the only Cobra replica using BMW as a donor, that fact alone would make me consider it.
I didn't feel that the BMW Mag review ripped it to shreds, it made some critical comments about a couple of points, but was pretty positive overall.
Hope you enjoy your car Python1 and lets see some photos!
