Kit Cars For Motorsport
Discussion
Hi guys,
As a lot of you are keen on competing in your cars I thought that I would let you know we have now got the AMS Murtaya approved for a number of race, rally, sprint and hillclimb disciplines.
The race and rally cars do receive a host of changes from the standard road car to make them specifically suited to the differing requirements of the individual disciplines (particularly the rally car), although the standard road car lends itself well to being a combined road/hillclimb/sprint car.
Indeed several current and future purchasers are planning on using their cars as everyday runarounds and weekend warriors. (If anyone is interested in a VX'R'220 take a peek in the classifieds as there is a nice one for sale there as Nick is looking to get funds together for a Murtaya!)
I can supply further information on any of the road or motorsport variants should anyone be interested.
I am also very interested in hearing from anyone currently using a kit car in competition, particularly rallying. Any good stories/giant killing performances to share??
Neil.

Graham Finlayson rallied a Westfield R1 BEC in a Barbados tarmac rally a few times

I remember seeing some coverage of this on a sky channel at some time in the past. It was an awesome machine, as were many of the specials running in Barbados.
There are a large number of British crews who compete there each year, normally shipping their cars out to the country for the events.
The changes to the K37 regulation in UK rallying means that most specials (spaceframes or motorbike engined cars) will be outlawed in a couple of years time which is why we have designed the Murtaya to be suitable for the new regulations. Other eligible low volume cars will be things like the Darrian T90 where the main chassis is actually in monocoque form and the car is available in factory built form.
In many ways I think it is a shame as some of the most spectacular rally machinery out there is created by innovative home engineers and generally speaking the standard of construction is excellent. Anyone who has witnessed Andy Burton in his 306 Cosworth flying through a forest will remember it forever. Just head to youtube and search for him, well worth 5 minutes of your life!!

What an awesome car, rally driver and video, and wondering if someone is already considering the Murtaya, as a rally weapon for the near future.....

There's some pictures of what different versions of the Murtaya might look like (track, road, rally, etc.):
