Which Westfield
Discussion
A friend and I are thinking of chipping in and buying a westfield. It would be shared and used for a bit of fast weekend road use and perhaps 6-8 trackdays a year. However, two caveats. Firstly, neither of us have any clue whatsoever about westfields. Secondly we aren't very mechanically inclined, although we would try and learn.
So a few questions:
1) What kind of westfield would 8-10k buy? What model? Bike or car engined?
2) What kind of maintenance do they require? Is owning one not advisable unless you are handy with a spanner?
3) What are the running costs like? How quickly do they east consumables?
Cheers.

If it is for track days a Sylva Striker is a much better car!!! Bike power is superior for trackdays but a good Ford Zetec or Vauxhall twin cam will be awesome as well.
As for maintenance you would soon be able to work out how to look after one they are very simple. Costs to be honest are so dependant on engine etc so it is difficult to advise.
Get yourselves along to a good Kit car show ie Stoneleigh (early May)and do some research, also a visit to a 750 motor club race meeting would show you lots of kit cars in operation, bike powered and normal.

£8-10K will get you a very nice car, such as mine, here

In terms of maintenance, I change all the fluids myself, every year (oil& filter, brake fluid, gearbox oil & diff oil) total cost is never more than about £40-50.
Regarding other maintenance, the only thing I pay garages for is a rolling road tune/carb balance (£108 this year inc 4 new NKG platinum spark plugs), this together with a suspension set up is done on average every 18mths-2yrs.
Parts, in 7 yrs mines had a new alternator and starter motor (£80 & 90 respevtively) New Battery (odyssey high cranking capacity), £60 this year.
Brake pads, I've never worn a set out but have fitted 3 different sets in 7 years, (you'll find out about upgradeitis).
Current tyres i have on it are Toyo T1's - £140 for a set of 4, fitted and balanced, 2 yrs old & loads of tread left
You cannot have anymore fun for less money. Come on, take the plunge/
