Hi all, apparently 'Classics Monthly' is featuring a clever fellow who is building a DB5 replica in fibreglass, haven't seen this yet, will invade W.H.Smiths tomorrow, there's got to be a market out there for that hasn't there; look @ values of DB4/5/6; doubled in last eighteen months..

Sounds like the same car PPC covered a while back, which was being built with a BMW engine.

A BMW motor..? Granted the Aston straight six is PHENOMENALLY costly.. but a Jag XK straight six motor with three SU's or Webers would be a reasonable compromise; looks quite similar too. Heavy though; wonder what sort of chassis is used.. find out tomorrow!

I've seen this in Classics monthly.

A very nice replica. The article does make the actual making of the buck and molds sound rather easy!

Apparently it cost him 1500 pounds for the glass fibre and a total cost of 15-20K. However it doesn't say how long it all took.

A puzzzling aspect of the story is his search for a test drive in a real DB5. Surely not relevent as his isn't a real one!

Very well done though.

Indeed, impressive, we're told that our man can fabricate a spaceframe chassis as well, interior of course is never going to be cheap if he's going anywhere near Aston parts, the M3 motor is quite visually pleasing and obviously performs/sounds as well as any straight six ever did, I feel there would be a market for such a car, bearing in mind the uniquely iconic standing of the DB cars, AND the stratospheric values.. or am I wallowing in nostalgia?

If you could do an E46 M3 engined DB5 replica, with space frame for £25K turn key you would have a queue round the block and I would be first in line...

Hmmm, do you know the one about that company that built spaceframed, GRP-bodied sports cars in the UK for £40K or thereabouts? Hint: they don't right now wink
