How much could it reasonably done for? Assuming a half and half road/track bias with a reliable engine/mechanicals?? Not into any monster power jobbies, this would be more for a laugh than chasing outright lap times etc...

Thanks in advance,

If you believe Ron Champion then it can be done for £250 laugh

Realistically, unless you own a scrap yard, you need to be looking at around £2500 for a basic build using mostly donor components. If you want all the bells and whistles e.g. carbon seats, light wheels, bike engine, decent suspension etc. then the sky is the limit with regard to costs.

Having done it myself a few years ago with a Locost BEC, id say even £2500 would only build you a very basic car, and only if you were making rather than buying things like the chassis, exhaust and suspension arms etc, and were using things like second hand alloys from a donor vehicle.

Realistically I suspect most first timers spend at least £5k on a build, plus money on tools etc which you invariably don't have at the start of a build.

Thats the thing, I'd like it to be well built and im a wuss, so I'd need a cage etc etc... im beginning to think that to be done properly without me making a hash of the important bits (getting things pre-made!) it'd be north of 8k.

Is that more realisitic?

Mine cost me about £7k IIRC, that was 5 years ago having bought costly items such as engine (£1k), bodywork (~£400), wheels & tyres (£600) and various other bits like exhaust manifold / silencer (~£400), seats (~£250)
