BEC & CEC Shoot out Santa Pod 2008
Discussion
Really? I know a standard road going cobra would dissapear in the mirrors of a lightweight BEC, but there are some people running 8 litre chevy engines with forced induction and auto boxes. I don't expect they go round corners very well any more, but I know of atleast one cobra replica which is a regular on drag strips and I thought most bike engined cars were more intended as circuit racers.
I will have some of that if not on holiday. Curious what my R1 car would do, I would imagine a low 13? Pretty sure a good BEC will not get much below 12.9ish without some sort of Nitrous or Turbo, and I have seen some CEC kits do low 12's at a run-what-ya-brung day. So I think the CEC's will have the edge, especially as you cannot just dial up big revs and dump the clutch without a big flywheel.
as long as round 2 of the experiment is a flying lap around Cadwell park....... ;-)

Yep you are completely right they are a circuit car. There will be lots of track days that we will be going to this year, this is just a bit of fun for the BEC and CEC owners, something a bit different just to see how our cars perform on a 1/4 mile stip and a chance to meet up.

Interesting... my 1.8 litre, nat asp CEC has run 12.626 at Santa Pod (admittedly with a lighter driver than me
), which would have put it 4th out of the CEC's and 3rd out of the BEC's on that list. Maybe it's worth investing in some stickier rubber and some more suitable cogs and lending it to my sylph like girlfriend?
Is it just turn-up-and-run, or to you have to register in advance?
What are the prizes?

I have to disagree with you, big heavy lump like that! Theres a lot of bike engines out there now would hammer a V8 over 1/4 mile, blades, R1's, Busa, some with nitrous and turbos etc but we'll see on the day!
sorry mate ill have to disagree with you on that, imo i think a v8 will blow a BEC into the weeds at santa pod but thats just what i think

BECs are faster...
CECs are faster...I think that would prove how gearing-dependent BECs are as they bounce off their rev limiters shortly after the 1/4 mile point and watch the CEC's disappear into the distance.

steves put up a post to invite people for a bit of fun why on forums does that have to be dissected into this or that or hhhhmmmmm interesting the discombobilation of the atmospheric pressure means that a v8 will blow the BEC off the road !!!WHO CARES!!!!!
its a bit of fun BEC's already run in the 12's so there not slow Im sure v8's arent either but is there something special I should know about as Ive never known one to leave me for dead
one things for sure on the day ill bring two cars an r1 car with Nitrous and a single seater ZX12r both road legal in road legal spec
well see what happens on the day..... and who turns up with these parachute brake assisted v8's

"Johnny topped the HKS Drag Series “Street” class with this car in 2007, and has run 9-second quarter mile passes at almost 150mph with it in fully street legal trim. The car uses the original 4WD system and 6 cylinder engine and produces around 1,000bhp."
thanks to the Santa Pod web site for the quote.

Unless I hear otherwise from Santa Pod it will be part of a normal RWYB Day, which anyone can turn upto. However to enter the shoot out we would prefer registration with us in advance so we have an idea of what numbers to expect.
The prizes will be trophies for 1st. 2nd. 3rd places and also the following has kindly been donated by Chris at the BEC onwers Club for the BEC competitors
1st prize coloured silicone hose kit for their car
2nd 1 years bec owners club membership
3rd back panel organiser for their car
If anyone would like to sponsor the CEC's please let me know!
