CKC Track Show in July
Discussion
A chance conversation with a manufacturer at Detling this weekend reveals that the proposed track weekend at Bruntingthorpe has a 98dB limit and that they won't be attending. It was stated that many of the manufacturers 'demo' cars are way over and they too will not be there.
If, as with other venues on the track day circuit you pay before finding out that your car is over the limit there would be no refund I expect.

I hope the noise limit will not adversely affect the show. One of the reasons the Brands Hatch shows were good was the relative lack of noise restrictions, meaning lots of big V8 and bike-power being unleashed. But, considering the noise issue will only get worse, maybe the days of exciting noisy engined kit-cars are numbered, if we have nowhere to use them.
Aah, I see. Sally was at the show to promote the Speed on Wheels event to the manufacturers. She had just dropped by at the CKC stand for a chat - and to get the teas in while Justin and I were busy!
I've driven a few loud cars at Bruntingthorpe with no probs (most recently a Chevy powered Image Monza). As Lee says above, 98dB is pretty generous these days. What kit/engine do you drive? Do you know how loud it is?

The owners of Bruntingthorpe had trouble with their neighbours hence 98dB
What I drive is irrelevant. I booked a track day at Castle Combe also 98dB I failed miserably the noise test and was referred to ‘shop on site’ spent a hefty sum on two ‘silencers’ and can safely say no Cobra or BEC will get on track even with ‘help’ I predict unhappy owners unless CKC as sponsers clear this up and tell people in advance of this noise limit. A mate with a Duratec powered kit car with stainless exhaust is running at 101dB!
You may well have driven louder cars there – track days are always far noisier with upto 30 cars on a track at one time and most manufacturers demo cars seem to have fruity engines so they surely won't attend if they can't go on track.

I've just flicked through the latest issue of CKC (May), and Limelight themselves state the noise limit in their advert (in large print, to be fair). There will be a show preview in the next issue of CKC which hasn't been written yet, but we'll reiterate the noise limit within the editorial.

I to have been to Bruntingthorpe Adam and it is what it is a large ex- airfield track, by definition that means Cheap & Cheerless and very Cold, with limited facilities.
Why can't you and Limelight go back to Donington?
As I said before, we only sponsor the event so have no say in its organisation. May I suggest you address your concerns to Sally Mitchell at Limelight. I'm sure she'll take them into consideration. Why can't you and Limelight go back to Donington?
As I understand it from Sally Mitchell at Limelight, the reason there is no Donington show this is year is to avoid a clash with the new Stafford show - there's nothing to be gained in having a head to head of kit car shows on the same weekend.
The new event at Bruntingthorpe brings with it lots of benefits, not least the opportunity to incorporate many things people on this very forum were asking for at the beginning of the year!
There will be a static display and track action, just like Donington, but also much more going on. It's not my place to 'sell' the event to you, but if I didn't have to go there to work, I would be there as a punter!
CKC believes Speed on Wheels has great potential, which is why we have decided to sponsor the event.
Once again I have read with interest your comments on the Speed On Wheels event at Bruntingthorpe on 5th & 6th July regarding the 98-decibel limit. The noise test will be a static noise test at 3/4 engine revs measured at one metre from the exhaust at 45 degrees. This 98-decibel rule has been in existence at the venue for at least 7 years. I believe that Pistonheads have had their track days there for the last 4 years also TVR and GTi are regular visitors. The decibel limit is on the Speed On Wheels website and on all the advertisements for the event. We have also listed on the website, exhibitors attending and will continue to add them as they book.
Whatever your thoughts on Bruntingthorpe as a track venue, it certainly is a vast open space, definitely not cheap or cheerless and I assume can be quite cold! Surely no colder than the weekend that we have just suffered at a kit car show with a thunderstorm, hail and pouring rain. Being in July we have a fair chance and I'm hoping the great British weather gods will be with us!
Bruntingthorpe themselves have bent over backwards to help get this new event under way and I am extremely grateful to them for their help and advice. It is going to be an exciting outdoor action event, which has not been seen in the kit car scene before and certainly different in style and flavour to the many static shows which are on the show calendar. I do hope you can make the time to come and be part of it!
I notice the topic is CKC Track Day in July. Please can I state that the organiser of the show is Limelight Exhibitions Ltd - CKC are the main sponsor of the event.
We have not left Donington and are running a track event there on Saturday 13th September. It is only one day this year, because of the difficulties of another show being run on the same weekend. We will be organising the normal 2-day event at Donington again next year. If anyone would like to contact me by e-mail regarding Speed On Wheels please feel free on info@speedonwheels.com
Hope this helps.
With regards

Yes apologies, I agree that it isn't on the leaflet. We printed these at the start of the promotion for the event. However, we will be printing more leaflets and I will certainly add this information. The decibel limit is on all the advertisements for the magazines and it is on the website under the heading - Track sessions. We will change this information as well to make it more clear on the website.
Thank you for bringing this to my attention.
