Fitting a Stereo to a Tiger
Discussion
Managed to fit a system into my Dax Rush when using it as an everyday car... was ok for the traffic jams on the way to work, but pretty useless on the motorway tbh.
I worked for a loudspeaker manufacturing company at the time and made my own 3" speakers for Left Centre Right on the dash, I fitted the head unit under the dash on the passenger side and a removable parcel shelf over the boot box with two custom built 8" LF drivers.
No photos of the setup to hand, but i promise it's not as chavvy as it sounds written down here!
To be honest you are better off with an iPod and headphones, much less hassle (and i presume you can't manufacture your own 3" speakers to fit into the dash).
I think i have some of the 3" speakers left in the garage somewhere if you really fancy having a go, but you need to use a high pass filter on them not to blow them to pieces. PM me if you're interested.

Can you fit the stereo unit into the dash on the passenger side? Mine is fairly empty behind that bit.
As for the speakers - there is a little bit of space behind the interior side trim panels (about 1.2 inches depth) - I don't know if you can get speakers that thin? If you can it would be very simple to run the wires behind the trim panel from under the dash.
The panel behind the seats will be a piece of thin ali with carpet over it , but there's not much behind it until you reach the fuel tank, so you should easily be able to fit a large speaker into this panel between the seats.
Are you sure you'll be able to hear it anyway? My Tiger is so loud that to speak to the passenger you have to shout, even at 30 or 40mph. Perhaps a personal mp3 player and headphones would be an easier and more effective idea?

However, 40mph really was the upper limit for hearing it - and that's even with the speakers directly behind my head:

unfortunatly my alpha box sits there. i was kinda thinking i could build somethign between the tunnel and the dash in front of the gear stick.JimSuperSix said:

I think thats my last option, don't want to make any holes there as if i rains and the car is outside the cover doesnt protect that area very well.JimSuperSix said:

probably not, mine is very loud as well, but around town it might be ok.. no good for motorways tho!Paul Drawmer said:

Buy an ipod and some decent headphones?
I think that's the best solution. One of the problems will be constantly altering the volume, and when it is loud enough for you to notice that it is even on; you will be shattering the peace for anyone standing nearby.

no way will you hear a stereo in an aeroscreen'd 'Seven' at motorway speeds without an amp and speakers of 'Spinal Tap' magnitude. You can get helmets with bluetooth enabled earphones/intercom systems these days that you could patch an Ipod into and so also benefit from extra protection from the elements and the ability to hold a conversation with your passenger.

If you just looking for some generic nice headphones i can recomend the sennheiser cx200's as a good sound-for-pound jobbie.
I would be interested in the quality of audio equiped helmets.
- I would have thought there quite a large step between a useable intercom system, and decent listenable music quality?
- Also, how affected by ambiant noise levals? Even in a tin top i often find myself reaching for the volume when i pull upto a junction on a fast aroad or having come off the motorway.
