Spent yesterday at the Kit and Car Builder Show at Peterborough.
Apart from the weather it was a pleasant day.
Amongst the cars that caught my eye was the Fulcrum. I saw it for the first time at Stoneleigh and having liked what I saw from the pics beforehand I was extremely disapointed with it there. Yesterday, however, I was really impressed with it. It seemed better put together, but crucially, it looked so much nicer just in it's design....
I can only assume that the colour suits it much more than the Red (?) it was at Stoneleigh.

If it's based in the Striker, I wonder why the front wings are so high?
Have you seen the number of bike-engined cars that have bonnet bulges or the filter sticking out through a hole, Paul??And the engine is further back than between the tops of the wheels.
I reckon it's some attempt to harmonise the front and back.
I agree with Lee, behind the rear wheels is all wrong.

Love it.
However I do wonder how long the bodywork around the silencer is going to last....
and if you want to fit anything other than what I can only assume is an "aesthetic" roll-bar you'll have some awfully big holes in your back end - ooer.

If you log onto the Rainbird Racing website then you can clearly see the Phoenix in profile. You can clearly see the "waist" pinched in, because of a wide track but narrow cockpit. The Phoenix body is littereally as big as it needs to be, the first carbed' R1 engine in my car needed no bonnet mods to fit the airbox. The injected engined required a bonnet bulge from an MK Indy, but it is not too bad. The Fulcrum bonnet does not need to be that big, it is styling. The front is nice in front profile, but it is definately a "front heavy" design. I think Mel at Raw (nice guy) has missed a trick by not making a boot on the car and proper rear lights, thereby balancing out the big front and giving the car genuine touring ability. I hate saying it, but it looks "kit car" at the back. Looking at the Murtaya, that too has a bulbous front but is balanced properly by a lovely rear end.
So is it any more aerodynamic than a Fury? Personally, I don't like it but I'm sure the performance is good. I'd have started with a Fury design myself and dumped the changed all the lighting to be more modern looking.
I also can't see how that exhaust through the bodywork is not going to set fire to the car! As it is, I went to a huge amount of effort to keep the exhaust away from the fibreglass.
I do like retro myself and the bonnet bulge is good :-)

I think its one of those cars whichs looks worse in photos. I like it, its something a bit different from the usual 7 type designs and with its more enclosed design possibly a bit safer too if you bin it.
I would get a full windscreen, relaitvly soft suspension and some comfy seats with harnesses and this would make a nice road car.
Anyone know what it will cost as a kit?

Hello, The silver car Raw displayed was indeed a respray, but of the former dark grey car..The silver really suits it.
The Red car at stoneleigh was Gary Goodyear's Race car competing in the 750mc kit car series. He is doing really well in it. In fact both motorsport news and Autosport reported on Gary's win from Mallory Park last weekend getting pole for both races and winning both races with very clear victories, i heard word of 8 second and 9 second leads in respective races.
The kit car industry is a scene to hold on to, but more and more the manufacturers are acknowledging the wider community and the track day and racing scene. The fulcrum like others isn't aimed at the retro (fury/pheonix) end of the market, I feel the fury owners club should enjoy their great little car and support the modern scene which may help keep Kits and the home builder with a supporting indusrty. I know i'm not listening to all the same music as I was 20 years ago, but there's always a place for new and old

I think there would have been no point in creating something retro, since we already have the Fury, Phoenix and Stylus. Much as I like those cars, there's no need for another one. Raw's intention was to come up with something modern and fresh, and that alone should be applauded.
The height of the wings is partly to allow space for the wheels to steer behind the headlights. Headlamp units take up a surprising amount of room from the lens backwards, and many kit car designs (Aeon GT3, Epona, Wolfe, Rayvolution...) have had to be revised accordingly.
