Mac1 Motorsports kit car as a track car?
Discussion
I'm wondering about getting a seven type kit car as a track car that will also be driven on the road and really like the look of the Mac1 Type R (?) and the MK Indy so wanted to ask if anybody had any experience of them, especially as track cars. Or any other recommended cars from other builders.
I can't afford a Caterham by the way.
Thanks

I don't know much about the MAC# but they do look good, I have not seen any actually competing though, I have seen a few MKs though and some of them go very well
Why not consider a Striker, or any of the Jeremy Phillips designed cars, Fury/Pheonix, another obvious choice would be a Westfield.
I have recently sold my Striker which was used almost exclusively on track, sprints/hillclimbs, and am already looking for its replacement.

A friend of mine (and Jubal's actually) managed to get his Mac#1 to hand very nicely indeed but he had to re-make some of the rear suspension components to do it.
I'd also have on my list:
Aries Motorsport (was Stuart Taylor) - Serious Bang for Buck and a good reputation.
Raw Striker - love these but can get very pricey if you tick the optiins boxes
MNR - My car hasn't been as faultless to build as I'd hoped but the most recent kits seem to be sorted.
Procomp LA Gold - particularly if you are putting a Ford engine in it.
The world is your Oyster.

OK thanks for everyone replying and helping.
I just want a car that is road usable for Sunday blats and can hold its own on track. I don't expect it to be Caterham Superlight quick but want it to be nimbler and faster than average track type sports cars like 205 GTi, ITRs, BMs and most saloons even if they are modified.
I also forgot to mention in the 1st post that I won't be building it myself as I'm crap at technical stuff so it will be either a sh buy or from a firm who will build a car up, which is why I was thinking of Mac1 or MK.

I love the look of the pro Comp LA Gold. I saw an orange one once with a full cage and I though it was superb.
This one (or it's sister car):
Procomp take chassis accuracy to a level that most just don't see as viable.
I remember an article in CCC about Dave Walker racing a factory car and him saying it was the best balanced and best handling car he'd driven, so must be good!

I've got a MAC#1 Type9R complete with blade engine. Never tracked it but on the road it's a bit of of an eye-opener, especially now with semi-slicks. Never built mine but it's very well finished and the guys at Mac1 are very helpful. Check out their website http://www.mac1motorsports.co.uk/ & the owners club link on it and give 'em a call. Biased I know, but great cars! Best advice as always though is make some calls, see some factories, meet some owners. One vote here for the Mac though!

Cheers - I'll get along to see the place sometime as I'm in Yorkshire at the mo.
How does yours handle (it's not just sheer speed I'm after but a good all round 'feel')?
If your up in Yorkshire call in at MK sportscars, you can call in any time, but they have a open day this Saturday 23/08/08,a good chance for you to speak to other owners, have a look round and go out in a few cars, and take a closer look at the all new Indy spec-R if your looking for a great handling trackday car, here's a video of mine at Cadwell from a few weeks ago.Sorry sounds a bit poor, but you can click on high resolution for better picture quality.

Feels like a very, very quick go-kart! It really does stick to the road like you wouldn't believe! Being so light the change of direction is just instant. It really is back to the days of properly 'driving' a car before the the world discovered ABS, PAS, TC etc etc. You definately need to experience one, whether it's the Mac1 or an MK. Meet the makers, have a test
and pray for some sun!
