'busa engine numer - identifying year?
Discussion
I can tell you that the first bit is the engine type (W = 1299 -> 1400cc or something) 7 is 4 cylinder 4str IIRC . . . can't recall what 01 is. If the last portion is a sequential number related to age, I might be able to help as mine's 2004 and the number is in the 149,000s - so yours is a lot older.
The important thing is that the motor is 2003MY onwards as some of the ancillaries are improved. As far as the engine cases and what's inside goes, the only change I know of between 1999 and 2007 was the addition of a single bolt - one of the ones that holds the cases together.
People will tell you to contact Suzuki and ask them but they were useless when I tried this . . .

I didn't have any joy identifying my engine - I spoke to Suzuki GB who just said it didn't fit within the range of numbers they had and they thought it might be an import.
There are a couple of things that changed that can help identify them:
There are a couple of things that changed that can help identify them:
- the 99-2000 models have the FI pump on the throttle bodies, later ones in the tank.
- differences in numbers/thickness of clutch plates
- better starter motor on newer ones (post 2002) - has a different coloured sticker, one's blue the other's green I think can't remember which.
- different ECU and alternator rotor (it's also the crank position trigger)
