If they did, it probably wasn't legal - once you've got a Q plate, you're stuck with it.

The only possible way I can think of which isn't highly illegal is to rebuild the car using a different chassis, but it would need to go through SVA - and you'd probably end up with a different Q plate as you wouldn't be using new parts.

If you were using new parts, then there's little point in having the original Q car in the first place.

ETA the word "probably" in the first paragraph.

Nope.
Q means indeterminate age.

The rules on changing a plate are that the new plate may not make the car look newer. Older is fine, but not newer.

So once you have a Q, that's it.

As a 'Q' plate denotes a vehicle of indeterminate age or origin it follows that it could not be classed as before 1973.
So a NO on all counts.

I was just thinking that. Also, since Q came in about 1983ish (not sure on that), no pre-73 car would've been Q.

but arent q plates meant to be of questionable age? thats the way ive always read it
eg some bits form one car others from another and a bit more from somewhere else?

and ive got a q plate car my self, but i dont intend to put black plates on it as its the wrong sort of car and would look silly
