MK Indy R GSX1000R

Hi All
After some careful consideration at looking to spice this years track days up i finally decided to take the plunge on the MK Indy with a gsx1000r 185 bhp and all the trimmings etc. - full roll cage, carbon panels,paddle shifts, toyo 888's and willwood 4 pots.
MK are building the beast for me and will be ready for around mid feb, does anyone have one of these and if so could you give me any ideas of running set-ups and servicing.....cannot wait the anticipation is killing me!

Have you ever owned something like this before?
I did the same about a month ago but didnt have your budget so bought a 2005 MAC1 Type 9R (runs a 918 carb'd blade lump)
Performance is very nice although not like what you've got coming!!
As for initial setup and running costs in general
Learnt tyre pressures are good between 16-20 depending on track or road. I run 18 and find that works well. (running 15in alloys)
If its new it'll have some kind of warrenty, running costs are cheap! Typically an oil change every 4500 miles (or once a yr), its light on pads, disks etc due to the lightweight
You might find you get through the rear tyres quite quick though ;-)
I managed to snap my clutch cable which cost £30 and the front mudguard stay weld went which is more time cosuming than cost but no more than £20 in a re-weld
I cant say anything else as Im quite new too but most of the things can be done yourself if you know your way round a motor

Their are a couple of lads building to INDY R1s just down the road from you in Winchester.Oh what didn't realise that there were so many indy's about so thats cool to know especially near me!
Will have to meet up with anyone near and try and get a passenger ride and pint.
Had an E46 M3 before and trying to keep that tidy for the road and on the ball for the track is way too exspensive and heavy on the wear and tear.
Yes its an Indy R, went for a test drive last week at the MK HQ units in Maltby with Danny Keenan in the Hyabusa yellow one for sale.....extremely fast but sadly too cold and icy to venture out of the industrial estate

Will have to get on the Locost forum next then and find out about the kit car track days and events.

I just cant get over how well this BEC's accelerate or handle. Some fella local to me has a 404 dyno'd BHP R33 GTR and I could outrun it to about 80/90mph. I was even with wheelspin quicker to 50 in something that cost less than what he spent on just tuning!
What is the Handling like on the limit, are they a little bit skittish or quite controlable?
Think i might go on one of Don palmers control courses for this as willbe completely different to what i am used to with the 1575kg Beemer!
Just had a look at Paulw's Black Indy R on the LOCOST site and its looks amazing
how would that compare in performance to a Gixer engine?

I dont have track experience with one yet (thats end of this month!!)
There much more direct, alot of people say its how proper cars felt before ABS, ESP etc
Skittish, erm well there light and powerful, gas it hard too early and it gets pretty wild!
I can only really compare them to a really fast go kart! Its that same type of feel.
I would say its easily controllable though. I w/out sounding an idiot can comfortably come out of corners or r/bouts in 1st or 2nd with some serious drift angles and for a good distance too!

Plenty horsepower (although I dont think its quite 185 as thats Busa teritory)
Just take it easy and enjoy it. I used to drive a Clio V6 and its very different in everyway. Im running a Fuel Injected R1 engine MK

Rain etc is no probs. I think gone are the days of 'in the shed' builds. When you get one factory built the quality is top notch. Mines been out in the rain without any problems at the time or the next day when checking over/starting
The same will be said im sure with MK etc
Like Kris said just take it easy at first until your used to its power delivery, stopping etc

DAN3M whats the kind of cost to get that spec car built up from MK themselves?
Do they offer some kind of finance to ease the pain, or does it all need paying in one hit up front. I've been toying with the idea of buying one of these cars (or a MAC#1) for a long time, but the thought of dropping 10k+ on one in one heap is hard to get my head around.

Spoke to the Guys at MK and we agreed as it takes a while to build one after pin pointing my desired spec, we could if they agreed to pay a deposit to secure the car and pay off bit my bit until ie. 3-4 chunks until its ready or thereabouts!....late feb!
I am waiting for an insurance payout at the mo so i put what i could down to start with and will be giving chunks of 3-4k prob, but they said its up to me as i will not get to drive it away until the balence is cleared..obviously.
As for the price of my spec is with GSX100R, Paddle Shift, Carbon side panels, team dymanic lightweight 15" alloys with toyo r888's, Full Roll cage,Cossy LSD, Willwood 4 pots up front with drilled and grooved discs, solid discs to rear.
All in all - £12,200 inc VAT
That day cannot come quick enough but i bet you guys are bored of hearing that now!!!!

any more details on the carbon side panels? exterior sides or transmission tunnel? is it real CF too?
thought you may like the car, as yours is black, is a similar moody colour scheme! yeah, its the only one in that colour! "Lamborghini Battleship Grey" in gel coat!
