If it looked and sounded convincing maybe it actually was a Type 35? They are rare, but a few on the roads.

I suppose the most common replica was the Teal.

Almost certainly a Teal I guess then, they were around in the days of the Q plate.

(saying that, an original without a V5 might be given a Q plate?)

Onyx Sports Cars make and exact replica (at least the body) of the Bugatti type 37. Modern 4 pot engine, but totally authentic visually. Their 'Up 't north, could be one of those.
