I know this might be a thick question but what I know about kit cars you could write on the back of a stamp, I will be picking my new MK Indy R up in a couple of weeks with a q plate on, are you allowed to put private plates on?

No you can't put a private plate on a 'Q' plate.
If the car has an ordinary plate then you can just like any othe car.

Can you choose your Q plate or do you just get what's given to you?

You get what you are given. Much like with an age-related plate.

I suppose if you were on really good terms with the person in the DVLA office they might let you pick from a selection but I doubt it.
Anybody ever tried?
