Morning all. I did do a search, but either I'm no good at it, or it wasn't there. Has anybody got any experience of these tyres? Or if not, a good all round alternative at a similar price? My car probably won't see a track whilst I own it, so I need a good road tyre and as such wet weather performance is important. This means I have no need for 888 or 48Rs. But equally I don't want budget Pookangming Hedge Finder 2000s! Any help you lot can give will be appreciated.

I'd recommend KUMHO V70A

These have a traditional tread pattern and come in soft, medium and hard. Soft is a sort of sprint tyre which won't last long on the road but medium is a nice grippy tyre which will cope with wet roads without making your wife reach for the life cover wink Not sure about hard, never used them but they're unlikely to be as hard as a normal road tyre like a Toyo T1R or something like that.

My 888's are not that bad in the wet tbh, they don't like standing water but neither do I ! smile Wet roads are no problem but puddles are to be avoided.

They look good, but they're £100 a corner in my size. I was hoping for something a little cheaper to be honest!

If you aren't going to see a track in the 7 then you are right, you have no need for semi-slicks. What about Goodyear Eagle F1 Assymetrics? I have heard nothing but good things and they cleaned up in the tyre tests.

If you can find them, Stunner Scudo are the favourite list 1A tyre amongst the sprint/hillclimb fraternity. They are cheap and seem to offer good grip if you can't or don't want to use semi-slicks. Camskill should be able to supply them if they are still available.

The main problem with tyres like that on a 7 are that they are designed to fit cars weighing 1500 Kg so on a 500ish Kg car are too hard and very difficult to get warmed up so can be a bit skittish, especially if it's cold.

There is an argument for the crappiest tyres you can find. I did a TD/sprint at a large engineering company's own private runway, and bought some Xr2 pepperpots complete with tyres from a scrap yard because the surface was so abrasive I didn't want to trash £400 worth or 48Rs. I have to say, it was superb fun having no grip and being to hold power slides for ages. Sticky rubber does not always = more fun.

I thought the Zeta Linea had replaced the Stunner Scudo as the sprint list 1A tyre of choice?

Either way they work well on the gf's road / track 1100kg Mk1 MR2 supercharger and I guess they must work on a 7 type thing too as it was someone that sprints Westfields that recommended we try them. Good grip wet or dry, work from cold but don't completely destroy themselves if they do get hot on track. Aren't the best wearing on the MR2, but not horrendous and probably less of an issue for something that weighs half as much.

I currently have said crappy ancient tyres. And whilst they can be fun, a little more outright grip is required. Cheers for the suggestions folk, off price hunting now.

Agreed but OP mentioned wet roads. I agree with you for TD's smile

No doubt you are right, I hadn't thought about it like that and haven't ever looked into it as I just have eyes for the semi slicks biggrin

I had 539s on my Tiger cat for 3500 miles, including a number of track and airfield days, and they gave good performance without degrading. I'd recommend them as good value for money

Ive just picked up a set of Bridgestone RE720's
- I only got them on the car this afternoon so only have a 2min spin to judge them but they seam ok. I paid £10 a corner for them partworn anyway. But time will tell.
