Slipper clutch and Flatshifter!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Discussion
Hi all,
Just bought BEC (Mk Indy) and im already wondering if anybody else has the same ideas as me. I have been thinking about track driving and was wondering if anybody uses slipper clutch's on there BEC. I have raced bikes for a few years and these make it so much easier on corner entry. Do you still get the same engine braking effect in the car as appose to on a bike. I have also been looking at the "Flatshifter Pro" product that allows full throttle upshifts and clutchless downshifts. So im thinking now of flat out upshifts and then clutchless downshifts with next to no engine braking so back on the power earlier.
.= Quicker laptimes.
Feel free to shoot me down if im talking SH*T or is there any mileage in what im trying to describe.
NEW CAR COMES THURSDAY.

I'm thinking exactly the same. I bought mine about 4 months ago. Also had several road bikes and used to both quickshifter's and clutch slippers but have no idea on a bec. I'm also gettin all the wheels laser aligned and will be taken delivery of some 888's on thursday. Anyone with experience on here would be nice. Dean
I had both a slipper clutch and a flatshifter on my MK Indy R,the engine was a 2007 ZX10R so the slipper clutch is a standard fitment on these engines,I don't think having one fitted to a BEC is as bigger advantage as having one fitted to a bike, but I would say the down shifts did feel a bit "softer",although it made me no quicker on track,I am sure it would be more usefull on a bike.So I would say save your money if your looking at buying one to make you quicker on track.
But the flatshifter on the other hand,is a great bit of kit,you must gain 2/3 metres advantage on every upshift, its like having at extra 20bhp,I found the auto downshift less of advantage,as I have been driving BEC many thousands of miles over the last 5 years, and cannot get out of the habit of dabing the clutch on down shifts, but if your new to BEC's and have it fitted from day one,you would then I am sure get to grips with it in no time.

I think a slipper clutch is largely wasted if you are fitting a flatshifter pro. The flatshifter blips the throttle for you upon downshifting so it matches the revs to the lower gear, therefore you do not get any sudden engine braking at all.
Upon initial investigation, I think it still might be better to clutch on the downshifts with the flatshifter - the blip will still be there so when you lift the clutch again the revs will still be matched, but I feel it might be kinder to the box to do this.
I'll know more once I've had it back on track though.
P.S. The upshifts are obscenely fast!

I really would stop worrying about laptimes and how to make yourself faster round track etc etc right now, you have not even got your car yet. We all know that it is mainly about fun and that experience and talent (and bravery
) make you faster than any modification can, so just get the car, enjoy it, track it and then work out what you want and need from there.
Make sure you post pics of your car after you get it though

have heard nothing but great things about this product, but never seen the need for a slipperclutch on a BEC instilation.
I would wait and see how you get one. Depending on the car you have bought, your money may be better off spent on training or ather mods to correct and handling issues.
I would look at ride heights, tyre pressures, geo etc before any type of ignition modification.
Out of intrest what Busa Indy have you bought? The MK yellow demo car? That looked a good build if so, apart from the bling Wolfrace wheels lol

I'd reckon a car (with its extra mass) will make a slipper clutch wear out quite quickly. I thought I'd heard slippers were even a problem for some bike racers, especially those with cable clutches who found a clutch actually wore enough during a race to need cable adjustment.
You can adjust the pack thickness on a slipper clutch (depending on the make) to allow for more or less slip. I would imagine that a bike set up to slip like a two stroke will wear the plates out quickly and you would need to adjust and check it quite often. I've had slipper clutches on most of my recent race bikes and never had a problem with excessive wear.Spoke to the guy at flatshifter today. Cant make my mind up on the Pro or expert version.
Works so busy for me right now I will prob get someone to fit it. He said he knows a great guy in ipswitch area.
Anyone on here know of a specialist on these cars. I got a few things I want done all at the same time. I guess I could do it myself but I only get a free day on the w/end and normally wanna either chill out or be in the mac1!!!

Hi Dean,
You will have to let me know what you think of the flatshifter when you get it all fixed up. Whats the advantage of the expert over the pro model????. I was looking at he pro version and could not really work out what the extra features of the expert done. Maybe if you spoke to them they explained it to you....!
Essex boy into motocross?? Dont suppose you know my mate Andy Weymouth he's been about a bit on the bike scene. I know him from road racing but i've been crossing with hima few times. He took me to a track near Harlow, right near the M11. Had a right laugh....

Yep know your mate and track is called Essex MX. Track can be quite hard work. Ive been doing the sport years - I got a dodgy surname so most people in the sport have heard of me, my cousin or my dad/uncle when they were younger
Anyways the Expert allows you to change on normal driving and much lower revs w/out the jerkyness you'd get with the pro. I asked the same question. My thinking was sod it, its only £100 more!
Will probably buy the paddles in a month or so as well if i get compulsive again!
Spoken to Graham from flatshifter he reckons i'll have it delivered by mid next week so I'll be sortin brakes etc over w/end until it arrives

Dean, you are aware that the expert doesn't come with the electric shift solenoid, so any paddles you buy will need to be cable operated. If you want the full electric system you'll also need to order the "max" for another £500 or so, and then if you want paddles they'll be on top of that.
I raced a blade engined fury for a couple of years and used a trickshifter, dont know about the flat shifter wether its the same thing different manafacturer.
Excellent bit of kit, easy to set up and never went wrong.Gear changes were excellent up and down.

Hey Indy2000 - yeah I realised that when I ordered the expert model. Choose it only 'cos it was £100 more but allowed clutchless shifts smooth at any revs (not just full gas)
Looking at around £750 for electrics and paddle shift and that just too much for me!
I get my 888's fitted and wheels laser aligned this thursday which is about the same time as the flatshifter arrives so I'll have a dabble fitting that at night.
As said earlier once the rubber and shifter are fitted I'll let ya know all good and bad things I notice.
