AC Cobra Replica Owners.......
Discussion
Im considering getting the above but I have read there are 42 different versions of the Cobra....
Which is supposed to be the best without being biased :O)
What is the average price for insurance or what do you pay and is there a Cobra specialist insurer for kit cars?
What is the frequentcy of servicing and what do you expect for a service?
Used to having big cars but what is the MPG
Are they all exempt from tax as a kit car?
How much is it to put one through a SVA test?
Anything else you may think please let me know, eg weaknesses when looking at the cars
Thanks.... :O)

Best (most authentic):- kirkham Don't expect any change out of £90k for one with all the right bits on though.
Cheapest:- Pilgrim From about £7K to about..........Well, however mad you want to go.
MPG, for one with 5.7 litre engine upwards, from under 6mpg (If you drive like a loon) up to over 25mpg on a steady run.
Servicing is dirt cheap, all parts available mail order next day in the UK. you'll need:- Oil, oil filter, air filter, spark plugs. And that's about it.
Insurance:- if you're over 25 and have a garage and a clean license then from about £400 pa. fully comp. with limited milage. try Backford Bloor or MSN for insurance.
SVA is/was £190. this has not been scrapped though and a new test called IVA is about to come in. The price is not yet fixed but is expected to be about £540.
Tax exempt status is very rare in kit cars, but there are some out there. (They are not subject to the latest wave of govt. hair brained ideas of charging more for high poluting cars though, and currently the road tax is £185 pa.)
Weaknesses is usually down to the quality of the build.
