Westfield SE and Speed Bumps
Discussion
Even with individual engines, it rather depends on the sump. Most Crossflows have cut-and-shut, baffled wet sumps to replace the standard sump and the amount by which they have been shortened can vary.
If you're willing to spend the money, you can dry sump them (in which case the low point will be the bottom edge of the bellhousing), but that kind of defeats the object of going for a budget engine!
The other thing to bear in mind is that most Sevens have dampers with adjustable spring seats, so you can adjust the ride height a little. You need to re-set the geometry and corner weights when you do so, though, and if you raise them too much it (a) looks a bit silly and, (b) buggers up the handling.

I have an SE with a CVH with standard sump.
- It will give over basically any speed bump without contact, but some need partular care and where this hasnt been anticipated it has been known for contact to occur.
As said, you need to assess each car/engine install. However, that said, any installation should able to be made to work fairly well.
Height to base of lower chassis rail is typical around 4-5inchs, with the sump being around an inch or so lower. May two inchs if unmodified.
I might cut/shut my sump shortly, but am currently holding out for a freinds who is about to take his cvh out for a zetec.

All will vary as has been said but my Westfield is comfortable over humps and doesn't scrape if you aren't silly. Its all in the way you take them and also depends on what sort of humps they are.
If it is one hump across the whole road then just go at a very big angle over it (not straight forward), and if it is the small ones either side of the road then take it 1 wheel on each or if there are cars on the other side then put 1 wheel over the hump and the other wheel off it and you will get over fine.
They can be a pain but I wouldn't put off buying the car because of them. The ride heights are not too unreasonable at all and the car will make up for it when the humps finish.
