Need good contact to upgrade DAX RUSH engine!
Discussion
Hi Paul,
thanks for teh answer
I would love any engine running around 250 bhp plus...(ideally cosworth engine, like they fixed in the Donkervoort in the NV.)
I am not sure of the V8 Rover..torquish but reliable and acceleration wise I have no idea on the efficiency.
the key is to get a solid build there too. Cos i drive a lot.

A few people have starting fitting S2000 engines to them. I was at a rolling road day on Saturday and there was one there. It made about 250bhp, with another 100 more available with a supercharger. If you wanted a 4 cylinder engine that would be the way I would go. A relatively relaxed cruise but with high reving performance if you want it.
There is a video on youtube from the day but I missed the S2000 unfortunately. It sounded like a meatier version of the orange Westfield.
The first car in the video is a 3.5 litre Rover V8 powered car. Obviously sounds good, but not a modern engine! You'll get over 250bhp though. The TVR had a 4.6 litre Rover and made 276bhp. It also had a lot less in the way of silencing!
The other two Rushs are Cosworths. The first had a turbo problem but the second made 330bhp on high boost.
In my opinion, for a road car you should be thinking about either S2000s or Rover V8s (or maybe even LS Chevys if you've got the cash). I think that while the Cosworth is a great engine, the S2000 engine is the future.
Anyway, here's the video. There's more information on the day on the forum I mentioned above.

tHANKS Paul
that s great advice, the key is to find the engine...S2000 or Rover.. good idea even old, and a specialist (reliable) who could support me in the matter.
I will take thecar back from France, as I live in london, it would be easy to go anywhere around (UK is really gold for cars)
If you know some guys with good contacts, maybe they can source the engine too (and check it too). In the past I had a mate who owns a garage, guy is good , work in rallies who tried to fix a VW 2l 16S from the Golf...teh gear box not adjustable or ..massive work to readjust the length: headache costs

I should have added that an advantage of going from a pinto to a cosworth set up is that a lot of it will go in as it is as I think they're very similar blocks. I'd make the change cheaper and easier.
Do you live in France then? I went over in mine last year and the locals couldn't get enough of it. They had an audience at every camp site we stopped at.

Hi Paul,
Have a look , I added a pic. Do you have one of yours?
Yes I have had this car since 2001 ! time flies..
In the landscape the car is like a UFO, or some sort of strange objects; some people only knows or owns Caterham with lots of pride
They have mind trouble to understand what a dax is...
What makes me sad is to be crushed in acceleration when I try a run with some Cats

The car is based in france in my cottage, but I work in time full time in the UK, so I will have to drive up to Uk for an increase of power. Just need to source an engine and a fix which is not simple..

my mate Ruari has a Cosworth powered Fury (it was for sale at £8k, may be with a new owner by now??) I had a ride in it and it was awesome! We hit a genuine 140 in absolutely no time at all, amazing. He ran about 330 bhp I belive, but had to strengthhen the chassis in placesto stuop the torque twisting anything. I am sure the Dax factory will be the best for advice as a few others have already put Cosworths in Dax'

That'd be the obvious route I'd have thought.I believe that you'd have to modify the chassis to put an s2000 in (around the transmission tunnel).
S2000 is very tall too. Anothermate is currently building a Fury with one in. He was going to dry sump it to lower it but the S2000 gearbox is lowest point and did not bother. So a big bonnet bulge it is,. Awesome engine in a lightweight car, and a lot cheaper 250bhp than the 260bhp in a Caterham R500....
