I have read/heard somewhere that there is a 127mm extra radius on the steering wheel where its the best place to fit switches/keys etc
This zone being exempt from the criteria on interior fittings section.

is this true? as in the SVA manual i cant actually see this written.

Also would this be a sphere of 127mm zone or steering wheel plus 127mm and then all the way back onto the dash.?

Section 6 Annex has the diagram you need.
The basic exempt zone is wheel plus 127mm. This is a horizontal projection forward. The zone does not extend below the wheel it has a flat bottom at the wheel rim. There are other bits to the zone that extend out to the door or A post.

The sphere used inside is 165mm but the things it touches require different raduised edges depending where inside you are checking i.e. some items up in the roof structure are 5mm radius.

Use the huge standard Sierra wheel for Sva and revert afterwards, saves loads of aggro.

You can throw out your SVA manual now, you need to look up the IVA regs now!! im not sure how iv missed this but as of last friday you cant apply for an SVA and now (well from monday) you have to go through an IVA at the cost of £450!! there are a few IVA draft manuals kicking around on the web but no final versions yet!!

The same diagram is section 12 Annex 1 (page 72) of the IVA manual (Draft 3).
