Hi guys
I recently bought an st200 engine with the intention of putting it in my ginetta G26 I dont think the type 9 will take the power so does anyone else have a sugestion for a gearbox ?
also I need to make engine mounts up if anyone knows of a simular conversion(i know its an unusal choice ) any advice would be great
I have the ecu, dash consol and all the wireing needed to run the car
regards dan

You should have posted in the ginetta forum!
I've done this....

Details are on a blog on www.ginetta.org - I'm using a cosworth t5 box, the type 9 is not up to it. I used an adapter plate between the block and cosworth bellhousing, but custom bellhouses are now available off the shelf as morgan developed them.

A heavy duty Type 9 should be adequate, they were fitted to the 2.8i Cologne engine from the factory and they produce similar torque to the ST200.Is the v6 the way to go?
Whats the power figure on a standard kit car set up (I mean like the 2l zetec has 135bhp but the typical kit car instal reades 175bhp) without spending a lot of ££.
Also the weight consideration.
I have thought of this upgrade but need to see what the end bhp to lbs is.
Cheers

My car started out with a v6 type 9. It didn't last long. It then had a straight cut dog box but that was a tad noisy for the road. The Cosworth T5 is perfect.
Standard output for the st200 is 202bhp at the flywheel. A couple of easy mods, exhaust air intake and a free flow cat and a proper ECU it's 225bhp. Cams etc and turbos available depending on your budget.
Less than £500 for a 202bhp engine seems good value to me. There is a weight comparison on locostbuilders somewhere, it ain't much more than a zetec, but the driving experience is very different. If you go for the st24 version lowish mileage engines are going on ebay for £150! and will give 170bhp as standard.
Edited to say if i was doing it again i would use the Jag 3 litre engine which is basically the same but higher output. Ford do the St220 3.0 version which is available second hand but rare and therefore costly. Jenvey do a throttle body conversion for the engine which makes it produce insane amounts of power for such a simple mod. I've seen a standard st200 dyno'd at 260bhp with the jenveys!

i'd love to here how you get on, im looking at swaping the engine in my g31. it hasnt been on the road in a few years though. i did briefly consider the st200 engine as there was one for sale near me for about £100! but it seemed all to hard to fit, so now im considering a zetecI recently bought an st200 engine with the intention of putting it in my ginetta G26 I dont think the type 9 will take the power so does anyone else have a sugestion for a gearbox ?

im sure i read somewhere the type nine is fine up to about 200 hp? or something like that so if your planing on keeping the standard engine and not thrashing it to much it should be ok?

James, I run a T9 dog box already. Will the v6 go straight on?
I have checked the weight & it is the same as a zetec (93kg). So the only weight penalty is another exhaust plus maybe more water & 2 more injector bodies. Not bad for an easy 50% hike in power.
Bloody hell didn't know they where that light! is that the 3.0ltr??I have checked the weight & it is the same as a zetec (93kg). So the only weight penalty is another exhaust plus maybe more water & 2 more injector bodies. Not bad for an easy 50% hike in power.

This suggests around 360 pounds which is 163kg.

The ST220 unit and the Jag engine are quite different. The Jag has Direct Acting Mechanical Buckets (the Duratec has finger followers) and the cylinder head designs are quite different (port angles and pent roof on the Jag)... which means the pistons are different too.
The Jag also has continuously variable inlet VCT and a resonance charge inlet manifold which gives it quite a wide torque curve range in comparison with the Ford Duratec.
IIRC Mountune / Revolve (nee Roush) do a Duratec at around 300bhp, but don't expect much change from £20k!!

you will have the same problems I am encounering like lack of space in the engine bay for a rad and stearing colum clearance to the RH manafold
are you telling me you will do all that work and not drive it propely ?
you mite well do but I am 18 and so will drive it at trackdays properly
of you arnt going to use the V6 mite I sugest the 2.0 4cilinder as the exuast is on the same side as teh pinto

the 2l duratec is a bit to costley foe me and they seem a lot harder to fit??? the zetec should be a easy(ish) swap? the exhaust doesnt really bother me, i'm sure the pinto exhaust cross's from one side of the car to the other at the moment so the zetec exhaust should be easier? that bit more extra power would be nice though;)
i wouldnt have thought you'd be tight for room, the rover v8 will just go in, it is very tight though, and you need to move the radiator into the front somehow. biggest problem seemed to be the headlight lifter cable. but i would have just converted to electric lifters.
just out of interst what do you need to fit a 2l duratec? what gearbox do you use? do you need any kind of adaptor or differnt bell housing?

How much would I need to spend to get from a standard ST220 to one with that mod, plus better intake and remap (custom I guess) to make the most of it, getting me up to say 270bhp if that's possible? Or is the intake not worthwhile ... maybe just the throttle bodies plus remap?Gassing Station | Kit Cars | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
